About this project
Stretch goals added! See the rewards section for details!
The formerly prestigious Hotel Gula in Widdershins is this year’s host for the National Bakeoff competition, and gifted young baker Alexa King has every intention of winning. But unfortunately for her, the prize is not quite what she expected...
Flung into the past and faced with a foe with an endless appetite for the finer things in life, it’s down to her and a mismatched kitchen staff of maids, criminals, housewives and more to figure out how to escape the never-ending buffet.
Can Alexa uncover the Hotel's mysteries before she and her fellow cooks end up on the menu?
Critical praise for Widdershins -
"This is a fully-rounded world created by someone who knows what she’s doing…and who should be plotting out all our novels for us forever." Jessica Maybury, Girls Like Comics
“...(Ashwin) has total mastery of the form – the story and art combines for a seemingly effortlessly told story. It’s a very impressive work.” Brian Cronin, Comic Book Resources
“...A great mix of good old-fashioned adventure, quick humour and a healthy dose of sarcasm.” Grace Davis, A Place to Hang Your Cape
This is the fourth volume of a series of adventure stories based in the town of Widdershins- the centre of magical activity in England, and something of a magnet for trouble.
Because each volume is a complete story, you can read Piece of Cake without having read the other books. However, since everyone loves a complete collection, every pledge level will give you access to PDFs of all four stories that are in print so far, so you can catch up at your leisure.
Also, Widdershins is a webcomic, which means it can be read for free online at any time!
Like the three volumes that came before it, Piece of Cake will be a full-colour A5 landscape book, softcover, perfect bound, just over 100 pages long. All of the covers and spines have been designed with consistency in mind, in the hopes that they'll look neat on your bookshelf!
PDFs - Links to download the PDF versions of Widdershins, which include all of the extra book content! Completely DRM free.
The book - A copy of Piece of Cake!
Two books/Three books - A copy of Piece of Cake, and whichever of the other Widdershins books you may be missing. I'll ask you which books you want when I send out the address surveys.
Four books - All of the Widdershins books so far! Wow!
Signed/Sketched book - A copy of Piece of Cake with my signature, and a little character doodle.
Ink drawings - An original A5 black and white drawing of whichever Widdershins character you choose! Will be done on bristol board with crosshatched inks. I'll message you to figure out any details you might want added in.
Keyring- A 1.5 inch metal and enamel cloisonne keyring, feature the cupcake and crossbones symbol from Alexa's apron.
Keyring design not final, though hopefully pretty close. Please note that these extras are only available to pledges at the £12 tier and higher- basically, if you're getting a physical book, not a PDF only. Check here for more info about Darken!
£5000 - A6 full-colour illustrated recipe card from Alexa! Print version for tiers £12 and up, other tiers will receive digital copy. - GOAL MET!
£6500 – Rosie's card - GOAL MET!
£8000 – Ethan's card - GOAL MET!
£9500 – Gladys and Edie's card - GOAL MET!
£11000 – Sam's card
All of the funding will be going towards print costs, shipping, and Kickstarter fees, super simple! I have some stretch goal ideas in mind that I'll bring out if we overfund. If we go over by quite a lot, I'll be able to reprint the first volume too, which will be a relief as I'm running quite low on stock!
We've had two successful Kickstarter projects so far, which you can check out here:
Hello! I'm Kate and I put comics on the internet! I've been working for a long time on trying to get good at the whole pictures-and-words thing, and it seems to be going pretty well so far. My first comic was a fantasy epic, Darken - a story about an evil overlord and his "minions" trying to take over the world. Doing 500 or so pages of that taught me a lot about comics, and I try to apply what I learned when making Widdershins.
As I said in the last Kickstarter project, I'm a full-time comic artist, and getting the money together for a print run on a freelancer's salary can be extremely tough. Having the last two books funded through Kickstarter changed the trajectory of my career entirely, and it'd be fantastic if this one could follow!

Risks and challenges
Just like with my last projects, all of the pages are finished and formatted, all I need to do is to pay the printer. I've worked with the company many times before, and know they'll do a brilliant job- they can be found at http://comicprintinguk.com/ if you want to take a look!
As ever with book printing, there may be small delays as we get the page bleed fully correct and such, and delivery is never guaranteed to arrive on the exact planned day, but if any problems arise, I'll be sure to keep all backers updated on progress.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
