In January of 2011, I launched the most transformative year of my life. I called it, Project Conversion: A Year of Spiritual Promiscuity, and it touched not only my life, but the lives of hundreds around the world.
In the beginning...
You see, before Project Conversion, I not only hated religion, but loathed anyone associated with it. I had a bitter past with faith. As a Christian convert in high school, I chastised everyone for not following my version of the religion, only to become a hypocrite when I fathered my first child out of wedlock.
As the years went by, I grew cold and bitter toward faith, but only after my wife and I lost our fourth child as the result of an ectopic pregnancy did my faith fall to ashes and rise as bitter fury.
For years, I tormented my wife as she turned to faith for solace after our loss. One day, my personal hell reached critical mass and I was presented with a fork in the road: continue with hatred until it destroyed me, or douse my anger by immersing myself in the faiths of those I hated.
I chose immersion, and thus Project Conversion was born.
Rising to change...
For one year, I fully committed myself to the practices, culture, rituals, and beliefs of 12 distinct faith/philosophical systems, one month at a time, and chronicled the entire journey via blog entries. As I immersed myself one by one in these various faiths, the fires of my hatred cooled, and I slowly rediscovered the common humanity within us all.
Although I was transparent and candid with my blog posts, the nature of the blog and its obvious time constraints meant that I could not share everything that led up to Project Conversion, or many of the events the happened "between the posts." The book version of this adventure takes you behind the scenes and into the hearts and minds of myself and my family as we endured and grew from this epic adventure.
I need your help!
Every movement begins with a single act. Over the course of Project Conversion, a group of people from around the world representing many faiths formed a community which helped sustain my journey. In that way, Project Conversion was not only my adventure, but one experienced by everyone involved.
I'd like to share that phenomena with others.
Now, I need your help in carrying forth the journey and its message to the world. This book will require editing, formatting, file conversions, marketing, and cover art in order to transform Project Conversion from a blog into an engaging memoir, and eventually a system that can help transform lives, just as it did for me. Help me inspire others to turn from hatred to love, from ignorance to understanding.
Remember, this project does not receive any funding (and therefore, no rewards) unless the total goal is met!
Thank you, and peace.
