GPSmyCity is an iOS app that features a vast collection of GPS-powered travel articles written by travel writers and bloggers around the world. These articles include self-guided walking tours, sightseeing guides, activity guides, museum guides, money saving and safety tips, and many others. All of GPSmyCity travel articles are fitted with offline digital maps and navigation support that provide travel directions along with other useful information. GPSmyCity works offline. So, you can read the articles anywhere and get travel directions even without Internet connection.
As an old proverb says, “When in Rome, do as the Romans do.” If you don’t know what the Romans do, you can learn from them. Local guides, expats, and experienced travelers share their insight about various cities and the most interesting things to see or experience there as well as the best way to go about doing it through GPSmyCity articles.
Why would a traveler eagerly seek “Sudden Death” in Brussels? Where can I find “Beer Circus”? What is a Hangovertini? …and how can I get one? Should I go with the world-renowned Peking Duck or choose Beggar’s Chicken instead? What do Coca Cola and Mung Bean Milk have in common? You can find the answers to these and many other peculiarities in the articles at GPSmyCity.
Did you start feeling hungry reading that fascinating travel article about traditional local cuisine and decided to visit the restaurant mentioned by the author? With a simple tap of a button, the GPS-powered travel article will show you the precise travel route to the restaurant plotted on a map.
GPSmyCity started off as an app designed for people who love to explore cities on foot. Initially, all the articles in the app were self-guided walking tours. Since then, GPSmyCity has expanded beyond walking tours and its travel guides now include articles that are normally found on travel websites or in printed magazines. Still, unlike regular articles that consist of only text and images, GPSmyCity travel articles are modified to provide satellite-guided navigation. Staying true to its root, GPSmyCity allows users to create their own self-guided walking tours to visit the sights featured in its travel articles.
We are constantly reaching out to travel writers and bloggers worldwide to create the largest possible collection of travel articles at GPSmyCity. Our call has been met with great enthusiasm and, to date, we have had over 1,200 travel authors join our ranks, seeing the list of our partners expand rapidly. One day, we hope that GPSmyCity will cover each and every travel destination on the face of the Earth.
Our mission is to bring 21st century navigation technology to every informative travel article out there. We are off to a great start, but there is still a lot more to be done. Today we offer travel articles covering 750+ cities around the world and we want to double that number throughout the next 12 months. We also set out to launch GPSmyCity on Android soon. We envision a day in the future when you will find informative travel articles in GPSmyCity no matter where you go, be it a major tourist city or a small seaside town.
We invite you to become part of this cause and make it happen by backing our crowdfunding campaign. With your help, our vision will become reality sooner and will make you a proud owner of the world's 1st GPS-powered travel encyclopedia.
Backers of our crowd-funding campaign will have exclusive, one-time opportunity to get premium lifetime membership. This will grant full access to all the current and future travel guides in the GPSmyCity app – the world’s 1st GPS-powered travel encyclopedia. Lifetime membership has never been available until now; previously, the only way to get access to all the GPSmyCity content was to buy each travel guide one by one. Currently, the app comprises several thousand guides to 750+ cities worldwide. Buying each of them individually would total over $6,000 in today's prices. By backing us on KickStarter, you can get full access to all the GPSmyCity content for just $60, which is less than 1% of its total value. As we keep adding new content regularly, the value of your full membership will continue to grow.
STANDARD MEMBERSHIP – one account that grants full access to a single device at a time
PREMIUM MEMBERSHIP – one account that allows the use of two different devices at the same time (e.g smartphone + tablet or two smartphones)
Please note that the first device(s) you use to log into the GPSmyCity app will be linked to your account automatically. However, you can unlink previous devices and link new ones in your account settings. This will allow you to easily transfer your account in case you lose your old device(s) or upgrade to new ones.
All the currently available content is already included in the iOS app. The backers of our campaign who have iOS devices will be able to start using the full features of the GPS-powered travel encyclopedia as soon as the campaign is over and their membership is processed.
The inauguration of the Android version is currently scheduled for May 2017. However, content is going to be added to it gradually. Check out the timeline graph below. The Android version of the app is expected to fully catch up with the iOS version by the end of 2017.
GPSmyCity has created a platform for travel writers and bloggers to monetise their travel articles through app stores. To date, we have partnered up with over 1,200 travel writers and bloggers worldwide, and the number grows daily.
The authors come from different countries and speak different languages. Some of them are local guides. Others are expats, professional nomads or otherwise savvy travelers. What they all have in common is a relentless passion for travel and a wealth of insightful tips about how you can make the most of your travel experience and your sojourn abroad.

Our team is made up of seasoned entrepreneurs, avid travelers and technology nuts. What we want is to change the way people prepare for trips and discover new destinations through our innovation. Today, one still needs to go to one place to gather information and then rely on a different tool to carry that information around while traveling. Once on the ground, one needs to use yet another tool to locate and navigate to the attraction of your choice.
Seeing how cumbersome this process is, our team has come up with a revolutionary idea to simplify the trip preparation and make the traveling more enjoyable. We are passionate about what we do and thank you for all your support!
Risks and challenges
The GPSmyCity iOS app has been fully developed and operational for several years now. The iOS users will be able to enjoy it as soon as the funding closes; all the new articles and added destinations will appear in the app automatically. So, for iOS users the delivery risk is minimal or none.
As to the GPSmyCity Android app, the associated risk is also moderate. We don't foresee any major technological obstacles with its development and delivery, and work hard towards its scheduled release in 2017.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
