The Holy Temple Mount in Jerusalem, Israel, is the center of constant controversy and debate. It is the holiest site of the Jewish people, the site of the First Holy Temple (957 to 587 BCE), which was destroyed by the Babylonians, and Second Holy Temple (516 BC to 70 CE), which was destroyed by the Romans. The Dome of the Rock, an Islamic shrine, was built directly above the Holy Temple site in 691 CE.
The Jewish claim of the existence of the Holy Temple is officially denied by the Palestinian leadership and many Muslims. In 2016, UNESCO’s 58-member Executive Board adopted a resolution that spoke solely of Muslim ties to the Temple Mount.
The Temple Mount was captured by Israel in 1967 from the Jordanian Army, which attacked Israel during the Six Day War. At that time, as an act of peace, Israel granted to Jordan administrative control over the Temple Mount.
Today, Jordan employs militant guards called "The Waqf" to administer the site. The Waqf systematically intimidates and harasses Jews who attempt to tour the area. Jews risk physical harm by even touring the site. Jews have been shot during these tours. Jews are even prohibited to pray in any way on the Temple Mount. Pictures of the Holy Temple are confiscated by the Waqf.
My experience there has been documented in the 13-minute video that you can view here.
A full-length documentary has never exposed any of these issues. Please help me do so.
Bio Note: From 1988 until moving to Israel in 2003, I worked in Hollywood with every major studio and network. I am currently a professor of Jewish and Holocaust film, regularly lecturing at Yad Vashem about the use of Holocaust film in the classroom.
