I'm creating original, custom cocktail recipes inspired by you, named after you, that you can make in your own home bar.
I really like making cocktails. I like drinking them, too, but there's something very satisfying about stepping into my home bar and mixing a good drink. It's a project you can start and finish in just a few minutes, and enjoy immediately. Now, I'm not a professional bartender, and I don't pretend to be one, but after roughly ten years of practice mixing drinks for family and friends, I've gotten really damn good at making a cocktail. I've built a nice home bar, consisting of over fifty bottles of liquors, liqueurs, mixers, and bitters, and that's allowed me to develop a good sense of which flavors go together, and which don't, which is handy if you're creating original, custom cocktails. And that's what I want to do for you: create an original, custom cocktail recipe, named after you, that you can make in your own home bar. No outrageously extravagant ingredients will be involved, and I won't ask you to infuse anything. As interesting as popcorn-infused rum sounds, it's not something I'm going to make at home, and I'm guessing you won't either, so I'm going to leave that kind of heightened cocktail experience in the hands of the professionals.
Here's how this will work: when the Kickstarter closes (hopefully successfully!), I'll send out a survey, asking you to choose a base spirit for your custom cocktail recipe, as well as whether you like citrus or juice in your drink, what some of your favorite cocktails and flavors are, and, to err on the safe side, if you have allergies. (I don't want to send you a recipe you can't make!) Then I'll come up with a cocktail named after you. You'll receive a nicely typed recipe card, with a watercolor spot illustration by my artist daughter:
Your recipe card will include an ingredients list, instructions on how to make your eponymous drink, and a little background into what went into creating it. It'll look something like this:
(That's an original one, by the way, which I'm actually calling a Bourbon InCider.)
Finally, after all the recipes have been sent out to all 100 backers, you'll also receive a PDF e-book containing all 100 recipes you inspired. All that for $15, the cost of a cocktail in a nice bar in a major metropolitan area.
Let's have some fun with this one. Cheers!
Risks and challenges
There's not a lot of risk involved with this project, other than the occasional booze headache for me, but the challenge is going to be concocting 100 recipes in a timely fashion. I'm aiming to create about five per week, and I'll mail them out as they're completed. Recipes will be tackled in the order in which pledges come in, so if you're an early backer, you'll get your reward sooner rather than later. If you're number 100, unfortunately, you'll have a bit of a wait. The good news is this isn't my first Kickstarter, so I know what it takes to deliver.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
