I have written a lot of songs for my church, but I have not made a serious attempt at recording them. This project will fix that.
THE BIG IDEA
To record some of the songs that I have written for my church. Make them sound awesome and then let the whole world know about them.
(Please keep in mind that we set our goal low. $6,000 is the minimum we need to make the record. We met that goal in 10 hours! We are actually hoping to get 20 or 30 thousand (or more!) Rest assured that every bit of this will go toward making a great album and GETTING THE WORD OUT that it exists. It doesn't do a lot of good to make something amazing if no one finds out about it.)
Hello. My name is Frank Hart. I've been the Worship Leader at CrossPoint Community Church in Katy Texas for about eight years. During that time I have written a lot of the songs that we sing together on Sunday morning. Until now we have not made a serious attempt to record many of these songs. I believe it is time that these songs are captured so that they can exist beyond the Sunday morning experience.
Living Creatures are my band. They are awesome.
NOT A HACK
I went to school to become a pastor, but while in school I started having success as a singer/songwriter/musician/performer. In 1994 I was signed to Warner Brothers and Warner Chapel Music as an artist and songwriter. With my band Atomic Opera I recorded four albums (For Madmen Only, Penguin Dust, Alpha & Oranges and Gospel Cola), I also recorded two solo albums (Human Liturgy and Being XPmas). Over the years I have co-written songs with many artists and produced numerous recordings. However, over the last eight years most of my attention has gone to building the ministry at CrossPoint rather than creating new musicworks. This is an opportunity to do both things at once. It is high time to do a new record.
Many of the songs were written to compliment the various message series that we are doing, other songs were written to underline the big ideas that we are wrestling with. Some of the songs help define who we are as a group of people and other songs were written to address certain needs in our community. All of them were written for our church, so that God would be glorified and His people would be blessed.
A CUTE STORY
My daughter is 11 years old. She has grown up in church with her dad leading the songs with a rock band on Sunday mornings. One day after church I was talking about about how much I liked a particular song. She said, "I like all of the songs you write." I said, "I didn't write that song, baby girl." She got really quiet. A few minutes later she asked, "So, you don't write the songs that you sing in church?" I said that I write some of them, but not all of them. She started drilling me on whether I had written this song or that song. All of them were written by other people (we typically only do one of my songs per week), and she was getting very upset until she finally mentioned a song of mine. "Finally!" she said, "I was starting to think you hadn't written any songs at all!" (It was quite an existential crisis for her. She still asks me when we do a new song whether it is one of mine or not.)
So, the plan is to record 10 to 12 of the songs that have been working well. We want to make a great sounding album of these songs. The $6,000 Kickstarter goal is the bare minimum we need to get this done (and pay for the incentives). Anything we raise above that will go into making sure the album is marketed and has a life beyond CrossPoint. We believe these songs can also be a benefit to other people, other churches, and other ministries. Please help us to not only make this recording, but to let people know about it.
I'm very excited about these songs and I can't wait to record them so you can hear them and share them with the people in your life.
TELL YOUR FRIENDS
Please let people know about this project. Every contribution counts, so a Facebook or Twitter link, or an Email to friends and family can really make a huge difference.
I am honored to have your support.
(Music Philosophy that you probably don't care about)
Music is very important; it is not only the art of human expression as sound, but what we sing we remember, what we sing we know, and that changes us. Music stirs the emotions, the intellect, the heart and the soul. In fact, it is the very definition of heart, soul, mind and strength.
Music and Worship are not the same thing, but I believe music is the most concentrated form of worship available to us.
