A couple of years ago, I was approached by my good friend Diana Glyer to illustrate her book BANDERSNATCH: C.S. LEWIS, J.R.R. TOLKIEN, AND THE CREATIVE COLLABORATION OF THE INKLINGS.
Since these men are a great influence on me (and play a SUBSTANTIAL ROLE in my book HERE, THERE BE DRAGONS as well as throughout the rest of the Chronicles of the Imaginarium Geographica series) I jumped at the opportunity, and the result was an amazing book we are both very proud of.
Many readers had asked about prints of the illustrations, and we produced a limited number of artist proofs to help a Kickstarter for an audiobook of BANDERSNATCH, but none of them have been offered for sale...until now.
Kickstarter offered project creators a challenge of doing a campaign that was limited to just seven days – the creative equivalent of a arts-loving flash mob. :)
I had been trying to decide whether and how to make prints of the Inklings pieces available, and which pieces to offer. After seeing that Inklings and BANDERSNATCH fans were actually POSING as the illustrations, I decided that all of the Inklings had fans, and so it was only fair to offer all of the prints at once.
The only illustrations from BANDERSNATCH that are not being offered here are the illustration of Samwise Gamgee and his children, which remains exclusive to the book; and the illustration for the Bandersnatch itself, which I have other plans for. :)
One caveat: this Kickstarter campaign is only going to run seven days, and so the number of prints available is going to be limited to those reserved during the campaign. No prints will be available for sale via advance order after the campaign has run its course, and except for extra proof copies we may make in the process of printing, copies for sale at conventions or other venues will be very limited. At minimum, this will be the ONLY TIME all of the pieces will be offered as prints. So don't miss out!
A SPECIAL MID-CAMPAIGN UPDATE:
By reader request, we are adding the Bandersnatch himself as a signed, limited-edition print! It is available as a standalone print, OR as an addition to the complete set – at NO additional cost! Anyone who already selected the set will now receive NINE prints, as will anyone who selects it from this point forward.
WHY THIS PROJECT NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT:
It's very simple: I created this Kickstarter project to publish the Inklings prints because a lot of readers have asked for them, and because I wanted to give the project some focus to get it done. Doing a seven-day campaign gives readers enough time to pledge support for the project, while allowing us to prepare for printing and fulfillment.
I was ill over the holidays, and am just now catching up on my current Kickstarter, the book THE DRAGON KNIGHT. Releasing prints of art I've already completed will also bring in some necessary cash flow while I finish my other work, without adding anything to my overall workload except for signing the prints. That's a win for readers, and a win for me.
Backers will receive one, four, or eight prints, as described in the rewards listed below:
You can help us make these prints a reality. Thank you for your attention, and your support. We couldn't do what we do without you.

Risks and challenges
There are always risks and challenges in any project, but I've done six successful Kickstarter campaigns, and I and my team have learned to prepare for them. As I mentioned above, after an extended illness I fell behind on the creative work for my most recent Kickstarter for the book THE DRAGON KNIGHT, which I am completing now. That definitely caused a delay – but I try to keep my backers as informed as I can, and then to deliver better rewards than I promised. With the Inklings art prints, the creative work is ALREADY DONE. All we need is the materials to create the prints, which my brother Jeremy will supervise; I'll sign them all in pencil; then our ace fulfillment team will pack and ship them out to you. I don't anticipate any problems at all, but if something does come up, I promise we'll let you know, and then do everything we can to get it back on track.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
