An intimate feature film about finding the way home. Filming begins Oct. 2012 in Mexico.

From the director

I recently returned to my hometown San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, for the first time since I was a child.  ...My American father raised me in Mexico on his own, until he was accused of smuggling Pre-Hispanic art and we were forced to leave the country.

I couldn't believe I was from such a special place.  It was like every pore in my body opened up.

My life was changed.

I knew I couldn't continue on the path I was leading in New York City.

And so, I chose to follow my life-long dream, to make films in and about Mexico, the country I love.  In order to do so, I had to find my way back and reconnect with Mexico.

My film, Eden takes place both today and 25 years ago.  It follows Alma, a young woman, who like me, returns to Mexico to investigate why her late father abandoned the country and took her as a child from the home she loved.

On this journey, she is able to revisit her relationship with her father.  She discovers a family secret the town has kept buried.  She begins to see her elusive father in a way she had not known before, giving her the key to regain a sense of belonging she thought was lost.

Eden is about personal and cultural identity, about finding a sense of belonging that goes beyond nationality. Ultimately, the film is about human connection, loss, love, and healing.

Your support

Everyone on the team has agreed to work for very little.

Nonetheless, we still have funds to raise to cover expenses for production design, wardrobe, food, transportation, lodging, salaries, locations.

Principal photography begins October 8th.  And if we do not raise the money we need, we will have to halt production mid-way.

Every dollar we raise beyond our Kickstarter goal will be put to good use in production expenses.

One last note

It is particularly important for me to make a film that speaks of Mexico's rich culture and beauty at this moment, when Mexico is undergoing so much change.  Negative images of Mexico abound and U.S./Mexico relations are at an all time low.  We can have a direct effect on the communities we are a part of.  And my answer to this is through art and culture, as my experience has led me to see that where there is a thriving artistic community, the community flourishes.  We will be filming for 4 weeks in San Miguel de Allende, creating an environment of exchange and collaboration, giving opportunity for new relationships to grow between people and communities.  I have already seen it happen on our recent location scout.  I want to see my hometown's vitality preserved, and for it to continue to be a place that nurtures in the way it nurtured me.
