About this project

The VJacket is a wearable controller for live video performance. Built into the jacket are bend, touch and hit sensors which you can use to send OpenSoundControl or MIDI messages wirelessly to the VJ program of your choice, letting you control video effects and transitions, trigger clips and scratch frames all from the comfort of your own jacket. All the code and hardware design is open source so others can make their own wearable controllers to contribute to the growing wave of performative fashion.

We just got accepted to ISEA in Istanbul, as well as the Bay Area Maker Faire in California, and we need funding to get us there and create an awesome experience for anyone who wants to learn or try out the VJacket. The prototype has been built already, but there are many improvements we'd like to make to the software and hardware before we showcase it! Your generous donations will be used for the ISEA conference fee, travel expenses, and hardware/parts/software for new VJacket designs, including a VJacket demo which you will be able to play with at Maker Faire and ISEA!

More on the VJacket: The Arduino2OSC bridge interface we developed for Arduino projects is customizable to send any type of OSC message to any program, including other video or audio programs, such as Resolume Avenue, Arkaos Grand VJ, Max/MSP/Jitter, Reaktor, Abelton Live, Propellerheads Reason, Supercollider, Kyma, Processing, OpenFrameworks, etc. Thus you can use the VJacket to not only control video, but sound and other networked interactive media as well.

We are also working on a commercial version of the Arduino2OSC open-source software, called Sensorizer, for people who want to create their own performance controllers without having to program or modify any code. You can get a free license for this Sensorizer software (coming soon to Windows, OS X, Linux and Android) by pledging $26 or more.

For pledgers going to the Bay Area Maker Faire (May 21-22), you can get a free stylized portrait of yourself wearing the VJacket. You will be able to control the appearance of effects on your portrait with the jacket itself (like tweaking the colors by bending your arms, or superimposing explosions on your head by hitting the jacket, etc). Just show up to our VJacket booth, pose in the VJacket, and we will email you the digital file of your portrait to show off to your friends!
