INTO MYSTERY KickArt!
INTO MYSTERY began on December 12, 2012 (12:12 and 12 sec to be precise) and since our first project launch we have scoured the Kickstarter pages for talented people we hoped would collaborate with us to form a larger INTO MYSTERY creative team beyond our own office. We hoped they might help deliver the second half of our project clues. Of course, it never is as simple as just asking people to participate; believe me, we have, and it doesn't quite work the way one might imagine. Instead, we backed and supported each one of their projects - one, because we loved what they were doing, but two, Kickstarter is a wonderful way to meet creative people; to grow a potential working relationship through the intersection of so many creative disciplines. We are proud to be able to continue our work with the full talents of artists that we have found solely through or on Kickstarter. Our KickArtists are contributing INTO MYSTERY in their own incredible way and again, we turn to you for assistance in helping this grow, both creatively and in the number of opportunities we have for the next set of nine project clues. PLEASE help us support three parts of Clue 09:
- KickArtists we found on Kickstarter
- Artists who we would like to kick INTO MYSTERY and onto Kickstarter
- Solve the riddles and become a KickArtist Kicker - help us lure these pivotal key players INTO MYSTERY by crowdsourcing the connection to their involvement
Please help us to expand our minds and to take this for a single ride in the upmost, creative, inspiring way that just might set a MONUMENTAL example for generations to come; please help us kick this Gumguzzler (as Abigail Howard might say) INTO MYSTERY.
Your support rewards you with all of the current clues, access to Clue 09 Chamber and some of the most imaginative work from the following artists that will lead you straight through the back door and INTO MYSTERY.
Meet the KickArtists!
KickArtist 01: Marilyn & Hal Weiner
Hal and Marilyn Weiner make incredible documentaries and films. Last summer, they were raising money for their Extreme Realities television series on Kickstarter while I was simultaneously looking for someone to guide us through our own INTO MYSTERY documentary for Clue 10. It took some convincing, but after backing their project, sorting through some logistics, a few intro phone calls, some wonderful meals together and after many, many cryptic conversations, Hal and Marilyn agreed to help us. We couldn't be more excited and honored to be working with such kind and distinguished filmmakers.
KickArtist 02: Neil Dvorak
I found Neil Dvorak (aka KeyMaster) and his super creative, comic and animation, Kickstarter campaign, Easy Pieces, back in August of 2013. I so enjoyed his style and witty sensibility (especially his head popping off) that I backed his project (I am receiving a two hour animation class - wahoo), left a comment and emailed him to set up a call to see if he was interested in collaborating on Clue 12. The rest has mainly been Neil's intensive work on concept design, storyboards, filming, audio, animating, editing, etc. and we can't wait for you to see our collaborative efforts in the introductory INTO MYSTERY: Clue 12 airport video. Beatboxin', flashmob, and maybe some celebrity dancing . . . that's all I can say, other than, I hope we knock your heads off (like Neil's head in his video)!
KickArtist 03: Greg Tull
Greg Tull and Monica Tull of Monitogo Studios LLC are crazy impressive. An ambitious full feature, animated LEGO brick film, Bound, completed on Kickstarter, led me to our collaboration. Their compulsion to detail, obsessive scheduling and their self-taught, amazing talent which lends itself perfectly to their craft of animating meticulously constructed LEGO sets, scenery and action of their own invention is a perfect match to our love of LEGO. I wish for oh-so-many collaborations in the years to come with these fine folks, but for now, Clue 11 is blessed with their brickmaster talent.
KickArtist 04: Alexandra Marvar
The ever talented Alex Marvar was found launching her new film project, When in Belen, where she followed hundreds of clowns into the amazon! I am no stranger to her multi-talented gifts of writing, photography, music, journalism and connector of all things amazing; she was part of our 212box team from 2010 to 2012 and though she won't admit it, she has been pivotal in shaping INTO MYSTERY from the fledgling days of its existence. Regardless, her Kickstarter project allowed us to collaborate on our new INTO MYSTERY website which we are looking forward to showing you. Alex is also, by trade, a KeyMaster - be sure to look closely at her Kickstarter page.
KickArtist 05: Abigail Howard
Three thousand, three hundred and twenty-four Kickstarter Backers fell in love with Abigail Howard for her Last Halloween comic strip and I was no exception. Granted, I cheated a bit when I forced a collaboration with Abby by backing at a reward tier level that included "a 4-page comic based on something you find terrifying or disturbing". In a unique style that only Abigail has mastered, I received a perfect email request for my worst possible terror and my reply was simple: if, and only if, Clue 18 was not successfully backed, that is my only worst fear and horror. Now, I know you won't let that happen, but if it did, Abigail will describe the horrific series of events that may occur. Please jump INTO MYSTERY and discover her talents, they are terrifically terrible and amazing.
More "Outside Kickstarter" Artists need to get kicked INTO MYSTERY and we kindly ask for your help again. Clue 09: KickArt is all about kickstarting INTO MYSTERY KickArtists; support our support of artists and unique individuals on and off Kickstarter; through the duration of this project (and the following +/- 7 - 10 years). We want to create so many more experiences for you, the backer, that will have a deeper, larger effect; to deliver the essence and fulfill the meaning of what Kickstarter has begun in a relatively short time span - crowdsourcing creative endeavors. Let us, together, stretch the possibilities of what we can all do together, PLEASE!
My hope for a collaboration with Cybèle Young has been a long time coming, and I couldn't be more excited to share in our INTO MYSTERY joint effort of story telling. We propose the following collaborative process:
- Provide Cybèle with a wire frame work of an illustration (that just might be important to a parallel story or final clue)
- Cybèle will insert one figure, a little girl with a middle name of Simone (until you backers give her a full name from Clue 02); Cybèle will then illustrate a new surrounding / set using our wire frame guidelines, loosely creating a storyboard of a narrative
- We provide our interpretation of the narrative through writing and additional representation
- We hope to build two parallel narratives, one that can be made into a book similar to Cybèle's previously published books and two, a portion of a storyboard for our overall INTO MYSTERY narrative
This man is the finest artist I have known for half of my life. Period. (btw, his attempts at Buddhist Thought & Value will still earn him a C- for attendance) We propose the following collaborative process:
- Provide Ian with a wire frame work of an illustration (that just might be important to a parallel story or final clue)
- Ian freely interprets the image into his geometric, Tron-like worlds of vinyl-laden patterns and vast polished finishes to create his own piece of (hidden text based) artwork
- Between his bizarre secret text writing and the curious line images we have given him, and no doubt his magic golden touch of intellect, rigor and abstract (I am talking completely off the wall humour here) comedic fortitude - there is not a doubt in my mind that the artwork produced will be the finest to date
- We hope to produce a small catalog of the work, as well as, send this artwork out into the (Art) world only to be painstakingly pieced together to complete the final INTO MYSTERY . . . "Want to play a game?" . . .
Adam Reed Tucker
This man needs no introduction, though I offer a quick teaser for any LEGO Architecture fan - and PLEASE, hold on to your LEGO hats and check out Clue 11 in March.
Be a KickArtist Kicker
Might we, as a Kickstarter community, steer the future involvement of the following hopeful KickArtists? PLEASE discover our wish list of candidates in the below riddles and if you know someone who knows someone who might convince them to kindly jump INTO MYSTERY with us, we would be ever so grateful. Please note: We reward KickArtist Kickers with one spectacular key reward that can only be found INTO MYSTERY. Thanks in advance.
(My favorite part of INTO MYSTERY has been meeting all of our KickArtists and the crazy chance encounters of overlapping interests - but nothing compares to the author of the below riddles - Christian Haunton is a Clue 01 Backer (by chance) of INTO MYSTERY and he claims our chairman title of all things INTO MYSTERY; learn about his story in Clue 10! Thank you, thank you, Christian, you are truly a wonder.)
And the riddles are . . . (by the way, each pair of riddles, under their corresponding future clue, contain two or more people paired together with whom we would like to collaborate).

Risks and challenges
Our collaborations are well under way, but time is against us. We need help in securing people's schedules and participation and that's where we have turned to you for help. So often our collaborations require years of planning, but my hope is that we, together, can inspire and kickstart 800 million people INTO MYSTERY by the end of this new year. Unfortunately, all of the good will from our KickArtists won't derail their current work schedules, but fortunately, money often helps at least secure a fixed intersection of time, pays for materials that might otherwise be a strain, and provides a small fissure of a window of opportunity for us to collaborate INTO MYSTERY. Any money pledged on Clue 09 will go straight to our collaborative work with our KickArtists.
The INTO MYSTERY has a schedule, however, it breathes and fluctuates to your participation. Please be patient and trust that we will forge on, no matter the results. Thank you again for your support and participation.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
