“It’s kind of fun writing a genius-centric ‘Goonies’ that could turn thriller at any moment!” -Trent Beckett
A group of young prodigies thought they were going to a national science fair. Instead, they were kidnapped and awoke to find themselves in a strange facility, wearing hazmat suits. They learn the hard way that the air is toxic and now some robotic monstrosity is hunting them down! Where can they run? Who can they trust? How can they escape from The Scientists?!
The Scientists: Part Two continues on the adventure of The Scientists comic mini-series, the final project I worked on with my friend and collaborator, Trent Beckett before we lost him. I’m committed to finishing this story as my way to honor him. With the release of this second volume, you will now be able to read up through page 87!
What's in store for part two?
- 44 more pages of thrilling adventure, painted in black and white acrylic.
- This is where the action scenes kick in!
- Part two (of four) It's already complete and ready to print!
- Cover photographed from a 3d paper diorama.
Geoff Weber is the artist and co-creator of The Scientists. He is also a magician, inventor, game designer, husband, and father of 4 boys.
Trent Beckett was Geoff's friend and writing partner. He enjoyed DJing "so bad, its good" 80s music and traveling throughout Europe and the Caribbean. He was a quarter-finalist in the ASA Screenwriter's Competition and wrote 8 feature length screenplays, 3 of which, he and Geoff collaborated on. The Scientists was the last project they worked on together.
Check out what people are saying about The Scientists!
I am using the kickstarter platform to fund the printing of the next issue and to help broaden the audience I can reach. After years of hard work, I feel this project deserves to be given the chance to reach as many people as possible.
Part One, successfully funded this past April, and was successfully fulfilled in May! Now I am launching part two as promised! The art for this book is done, so once again, I will be able to promptly get this book into production and sent out to you!
If you missed Part One during the previous kickstarter, I still have some extras, so now is the perfect opportunity to get caught up!
In addition to the comic, I will also be bringing back some of the other popular features from last time, such as more 3d art and another volume of the synthwave companion soundtrack.
-- What will the funds be used for?
Stuart Chin and his fellow prodigies all travel to a national science fair at the mysterious pyramid shaped Hofzinser Institute.
They are abducted and awaken to find themselves wearing hazmat suits lost in the maze-like corridors of the facility somewhere deep underground.
They don't know the reasons for their kidnapping or who they can trust.
Soon, they learn the hard way that the threat is real.
They're going to have to learn to work together if they hope to escape!
I'll be using the same company that printed my first book. They use a very high quality paper stock and most importantly, they have lightning fast turnaround times which means I will be able to get the rewards in your hands as soon as possible!
Guest Art Print:
I've been blessed with knowing many talented friends who were willing to share their art with me. This time, I have art by Todd Diamond, (who was a friend of Trent and mine since high school). I told Todd not to constrain himself to the storyline of the comic and to let his imagination go wild. He turned in this amazing piece, which depicts Stuart and Rick about to throw-down with some Scooby-doo style monsters in hazmat suits!
The Science of Synthwave Vol. 2
By popular demand, the Science of Synthwave soundtrack is back with a second volume! Synthwave is a form of electronic music influenced by 80s synth music and movies, giving it a modern yet nostalgic feeling. I have another incredible line up of talented musicians who have created the perfect music to set the mood for The Scientists!
Thank You Doodle:
Attention GUEST backers: I love that kickstarter makes it easier for people to back a project who don't want to create an account. When you do this, I will see your pledge as "Guest1234124" until the campaign ends, (at which point I will finally get to see who it is.) In the meantime, if you could please send me a quick message letting me know your name, I can get you your doodle right away.
The Bookmark (that's also a mini comic!)
Thanks for checking out The Scientists. Be sure to join the experiment, and pledge! As soon as this project is fully funded, I will be ready to launch part three! (which is also completely finished!) You guys don’t want to miss what happens next!
Risks and challenges
With over 150 pages of art complete, I already have more than enough content to create the first three volumes, so you can back this project with confidence. I will be placing the printing order immediately after the campaign concludes.
I successfully launched and fulfilled my first kickstarter and have proven that I am a creator who follows through. As a ComixLaunch alumni, I have done my homework on what is involved in executing a kickstarter campaign and have access to many kickstarter veterans to help me with any questions I might have. As with any kickstarter, there is always risks... but I will be completely transparent through regular updates and communication if there are any unexpected obstacles.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
