We love Clippies, and you will too.
Clippies are more than just headphone clips, they're a way to show your creativity and style to the world. Grab all 4 colors and run them along the entire length of your headphones, or exchange daily with friends; have fun with it!
Once you get Clippies, you'll never be able to wear earbuds without them; we know we can't! We've come up with tons of ways to use Clippies and we can't wait to see what you will do!
Silver and Gold, Silver and Gold, What can be better than...?!
But seriously, we are incredibly excited to offer Kickstarter backers the opportunity to get these limited edition beauties.
They are hand polished and will come in a beautiful jewelry box with an engraved plaque that lets you know you're one of the special ones. If you're wondering why we are doing this, its because we think some people will want to give us more money to make Clippies a reality and it was an awesome idea we came up with to reward those VIP backers.
We Need Your Help!
To make Clippies a reality we need your support! We've built prototypes but we need money to purchase the tooling to mold the parts as well as scale up magnet production. We also want to prove the demand for our product before we take the risk to move forward. We've put together some awesome backer levels, so please show your support and help us get the funding we need to bring Clippies to the world!
An awesome shot of the red prototypes we made. Imagine what all the other awesome colors will look like!
If you back the project, please fill out the quick survey so we can make sure we understand the demand for Clippies.
The Cast of Characters
My name is Geoff, I'm a mechanical engineer and designer by training, I attended the University of Pennsylvania for both undergrad and graduate school. During that time I fell in love with simple products that can really change the way you live your life, and that is exactly what Clippies are.
It started with a simple idea and a sketch. I prototyped the first Clippies with a 3D printer and some magnets I bought online. I went through countless iterations to get the fit and magnetic strength perfect. But for all the hours I put in, Clippies wouldn't have gotten here without the help of some awesome people.
Pat Brandon was my partner in design school who helped me bring Clippies from my brain to our headphones, thanks Pat!
Aaron Robinson was really the one who pushed me to Kickstart Clippies, and I can't thank him enough for making me. Nice work A-aron!
Steph Johnson, my sister, and one of the first users of Clippies. She has loved this project from day one and I thank her deeply for the support.
Karl Ulrich and his OPIM-515 class was the inspiration for this solution and he was pivotal in helping get the first batch of Clippies prototoyped.
Jason Halpern is our steadfast promoter and occasional actor / stunt man. Without his good looks to grace the video you would have seen way too much of me, thanks Jason!
Kate Savarise was the star of our Clippies action shots on the river. Thanks for the awesome "clip and flip" action Kate!
Matt MacMillan is our video guy, helping in all ways creative and fun, the amazing cinematography above would be nothing but happy thoughts with you!
Risks and challenges
Manufacturing risk: Given the precision required to make Clippies work, the product requires a high quality manufacturer. We’ve completed the detailed designs in CAD software, and produced a prototype run already to make sure the production works for this product. However, when scaling something from a few hundred to a few thousand there can always be issues, so we will be diligent in our quality assessments to assure a great product for every customer.
Supply risk: The magnets that are used in Clippies are a custom design and are shipped from China. This a more regulated item which can cause issues when importing to the US. We have already found a manufacturer so we feel confident, but there is always risk that they will not supply quickly and at the right quantity. If our demand is much higher than estimated then we might have to switch providers which could delay us. In this case we will keep all our backers updated of any change to ship date.
Unknown challenges: We have identified and mitigated the risks and challenges that we can foresee. There always exists challenges we have yet to identify. Our team, with expertise from design, engineering, customer service, and supply chain logistics, is ready to tackle any issues that arise. We use prototype Clippies every day, and want to bring this simple solution to the world.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
