Greetings Friends and Family,
I am very pleased to announce my first art show in New York City, opening September 8th at TEMP Art Space in Tribeca. I will be one of twelve artists exhibiting in TEMP's inaugural show, "Working on it", a show in which young artists confront issues such as technology, originality, and identity in a contemporary context. I will be showing a large painting installation on plexiglass called Social Circle.
Two years ago, I moved from Boston to New York to do my MFA at Parsons. I've found a very inspiring environment both at school and in New York and my work has grown tremendously. I currently have one year left and then I plan to stay in New York and continue to make work. In addition to school, I've completed several painting commissions in New York, Boston, and Florida. The painting commissions have allowed me to step off the bar and devote myself to making art full-time.
Social Circle draws from my experience bartending in Boston. I draw from this experience and the parade of characters I encountered to address issues of gender identity and sexuality. You can see a short video here and more images on my website:
Last fall, I self-funded the beginning of Social Circle. With your supoort, I will be able to expand Social Circle (by adding more painted plexiglass panels) so that the viewer can walk through the piece comfortably. It has always been my dream to exhibit in New York. With your support I will be able to produce a sensational piece.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and I look forward to seeing you at the opening of the show. Invite coming soon!
