What Is Star Command?
When most people think of Science Fiction they think of the best and the brightest working tirelessly to better mankind, explore the galaxy or discover some existential truth. Star Command takes that concept and flips it on it's head. Instead of dashing heroes saving the galaxy we present apathetic drones punching the clock...who still manage to save the galaxy, because that's where they keep all their stuff.
The show follows the crew of the USS LEE, a broken down starship assigned to the deepest backwaters of space. A ship of losers, reprobates and ne'er-do-wells (also layabouts and slugabeds but they don't get mentioned as much) who haven't done anything bad enough to be court-martialed, but you still don't want hanging around giving your planet a band name.
In a larger sense Star Command explores themes of individuality, and how the accepted way of doing things is not always the best. The crew of the LEE have unique skills and even more unique ways of looking at life, which often gets them in trouble with the more rigid elements in the fleet.
Essentially Star Command is a show about finding your place in the world. Finding a place where you are accepted and excel.
What Is Our Plan?
We already have quite a bit finished, but we need additional funding to really flesh out our world. Our goal is to move from living rooms and garages to an actual soundstage to film our first set of Season 1 episodes. There are currently six Star Command full episode scripts in pre-production. Costumes, props and sets are designed and just need the go-ahead for full-on construction. Once completed we will solicit advertising for streaming versions of the episodes, which will also be for sale on DVD and for digital download.
What Is The Money For?
A majority of the budget (about $3,000) will go to rental of a soundstage and equipment. To date our major limitation has been how much room we have to erect sets and move cameras and lighting. Currently we have a soundstage willing to work with us at a reduced rate to help us get the show rolling. The rest goes to costumes, make-up, and props. Anything we get over our goal will be applied to marketing of the show.
