What It Is.
In early 2012 I decided to get serious about recording and releasing my very first side project. With a handful of songs written over the course of a couple of years, I locked myself in my Seattle studio and worked every day to sculpt them into something worthy of release. The original plan was a four song EP but during the course of those sessions I found myself inspired, more songs were written, and the project quickly doubled to eight songs.
But I knew I couldn't do it alone. I asked some friends to be involved in the recording process. A few played instruments. Other's provided their voices. Most importantly, the album was brilliantly mixed and co-produced by Ryan Coseboom (Stripmall Architecture, Halou) who took my eight recording sessions and turned them into what I believe are my best set of songs since the album TRIP.
The album was expertly mastered by Count from Vertebrae Productions.
What It Is Called.
Rather than release it under my own name, the eight song album titled "An Elegant Exit" will be released in late July 2013 under the name WHITEWAITS. It will be available on CD and as a Digital Download.
What Is Needed?
The generous and much appreciated pledges you make to this Kickstarter campaign will be used to help promote the album in a much broader way than I can do alone. Promotional plans include a single with a remix and a b-side, a video for the first single, hiring a PR company, and lastly to put together a live show so that I can travel and play this album in front of people.
How I'll Use The Funds
The first single will be released to Digital sometime in the beginning of July and will include a remix by Opencloud and a b-side which will require mixing and mastering. If the project funds beyond the goal, it will give me the opportunity to also fund the second single remixes and possibly a release of the singles on CD.
I'm really excited to create a video for the single and have two concepts ready for production. The first concept is fairly simple, can be made locally in Seattle, but will require hiring a videographer, renting lighting equipment, hiring or at least feeding extras and crew, and hiring a video editor.
If the project funds beyond the goal and I can increase my video budget, I would like to produce the second concept which will require many of the same things as the first concept but will also require travel to a location outside of the U.S. for the video shoot. And yes, I'm being slightly mysterious here.
I have been researching PR companies to help me spread the word to magazines and music blogs. There are many great companies out there all with different fees, approaches, and strengths. If the campaign funds, it will help contribute to a budget of two months of promotion. If the project funds beyond the goal and I can increase my budget and fund the PR campaign for a longer time period.
There is no better way to feel a connection with supporters than to play live in front of them. Nothing compares the the feeling in a room when a show is firing on all cylinders and I can't wait to create that feeling with these new songs in front of you. How I do that is going to depend on how successful this campaign is. The more successful it is, the more funds I can allocate to the extra equipment and musicians that I'd like to join me on stage.
WHITEWAITS will be performing in Seattle on August 2nd (details to come). Plans are also underway for a West Coast tour this fall and with your support I hope to expand that to include other parts of the US too.
This is all very exciting stuff that can only happen in the way I envision it with your support.
As a member of Cause and Effect for 20+ years, I have been lucky to have incredible support and dedication from fans around the world. I hope that you'll join me on this new journey and thank you in advance for your pledge and help in spreading the word.

Risks and challenges
There are a couple of backer rewards that will require some flexibility from myself and the backer. I will do my best to work with you to fulfill those rewards as soon as possible.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
