About this project
Rivet Nation, producer of RAIL, a Steampunk Journey, is the brainchild of artists Nadia Desjardins and Sheri Friedman, who thought it would be fun to have a Steampunk Festival in our city of Miami, a place not typically known for Steampunk! Our first event in April 2016 was located in a quaint and historic village known as Cauley Square and, although very modest, it was a smashing success.
Together with our partners, the Gold Coast Railroad Museum and the Miami International Science Fiction Film Festival, we are now planning a day-long event filled with art, music, film, food and Steampunk cosplay which will take place on Saturday, April 8, 2017. Our mission is to introduce the Steampunk genre to the Miami community in a way that is both fun and culturally significant.
Since this is our first major event, we are reaching out to our friends, supporters and Steampunk enthusiasts to help us launch and fund a new cultural experience with the potential of being an annual affair here in South Florida. Your donations will help us pay for musicians, performers and other artists whose creative contributions will take the experience to a whole new level. We are on a quest to build a new nation - Rivet Nation - and create an unforgettable day of Steampunk adventure, and YOU can help make it happen!
About the Gold Coast Railroad Museum
An important part of a successful Steampunk event is the venue where it takes place. The Gold Coast Railroad Museum offers the right tone and texture to compliment the Steampunk ethos and style. We are delighted to be able to create a truly immersive experience for our participants in a historic and inspiring setting.
The Gold Coast Railroad Museum is a gem of Miami history and we are delighted to introduce a whole new and appreciative audience to this local treasure.
MiSciFi believes science fiction and fantasy-themed films are the pinnacle of imaginative storytelling truly requiring innovation. Large-budget studio films have the advantage in visual effects and sets but the independent filmmaker can tell an even more inventive and entertaining story with limited resources. MiSciFi wants to see and showcase these creations and be a vehicle by which these films can reach a wider audience.
About Sheri and Nadia
Both Sheri and Nadia are visual artists who met in Miami Florida and joined forces to create Rivet Nation. When not creating their Steampunk events or Time Tripping, they are busy creating art in their respective studios, Blu Moon Studio of Art and Cabin Gallery.

Risks and challenges
Our goal is to create a day long immersive sensory experience filled with the sights and sounds of the Steampunk sensibility. As such, our challenge is to be able to provide an array of entertainment including music and creative performances and as artists ourselves we want to be able to compensate our artists fairly. Our challenge is to be able to raise the funds to do so, and create an entertaining and culturally rich day for all !Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
