Vikings. Detectives. Warships. Awesome, easy-to-prep RPGs grounded in the real world. These are just some of the wonders that await in Making History: Three One-Session RPGs!
Making History is a collection of three one-session tabletop roleplaying games (RPGs). Each can be played with one game master (GM) and up to six players. Each game includes:
- A single adventure. These are self-contained, standalone stories grounded in the real world.
- Six pregenerated characters. They fit together in interesting ways that drive the action without restricting player choice.
- A simple rules set designed specifically for that game. The rules are easy to learn and focus play on the meat of the story.
Each game takes only an hour or two to prepare. All the GM has to do is read the adventure and print out the character sheets and handouts!
Making History is complete and ready to go to print. All we need now is your help paying for printing. With your support, we can bring this awesome product to life!
Norse Ivory is a game about heritage and faith set in 994 A.D. You play as Normans: descendants of Vikings who seized territory in France a century before. Now your duke has sent you north to the frozen land of your pagan ancestors. You will travel to the very edge of the known world in the company of actual Norsemen who despise you for your people’s abandonment of Norse religion and culture. Expect no joyous homecoming!
A Killing in Cahokia is a murder mystery set in the Native American metropolis of Cahokia, around 1100 A.D. Fifty years ago, it was just a large village, but now it’s bigger than contemporaneous London: 15,000 people united by a shared belief in the religious power of the chiefs who rule the city. You play as city watchmen. As you investigate an unusual murder, you will get pulled into a conspiracy larger than anything your detectives ever dreamed existed!
Darken Ship is a modern-day game that straddles the line between horror and thriller. You play as low-ranking sailors in the United States Navy. You awake to discover you're alone on a vessel that should carry three thousand. Terror and mystery lurk in the dim red light of the ship’s passageways. Strange discoveries offer clues about what happened here. And who knows? You may even save the ship!
$2,000: Printable name tents with art! Have an easy-to-see reminder of your friends’ characters’ names and what they look like!
$3,000: High-resolution art for your virtual tabletop! We’ll provide all the art in Making History in a high-resolution format to make it easy to use with your favorite virtual tabletop (like Roll20).
$4,500: Darken Ship audiovisual aids! We’ll record and release the announcements that play over the intercom in Darken Ship. AND we’ll give all backers an album of photos I shot in the dim red light of darkened passageways aboard the warship that inspired Darken Ship!
$6,000: How-to-play videos! We’ll record a short video for each of the three games in Making History explaining the rules. Play the video for your group instead of paraphrasing the rules in the rulebook, or send the players a link to the video to watch before they arrive at game!
Past $6,000, we have more one-session RPGs lined up as further stretch goals. Keep watching this space!

Hi, I’m Tristan Zimmerman! You might know me from Archive: Historical People, Places, and Events for RPGs, or from the Molten Sulfur Blog, where I publish free gaming content every week drawn from fact and folklore. I’m a U.S. Navy veteran, I’ve circumnavigated the globe, and way back in the day, I used to work with lemurs. I really hope you’ll join me on this amazing journey to make Making History a reality. I think you’ll be just as excited about it as I am.
Risks and challenges
This is a low-risk project. The book is ready to print – all I have to do is tell the printer ‘go’. I’ve also built several months of flex into the schedule to account for unexpected delays. This is my third Kickstarter, and every previous campaign has delivered the core reward on schedule. I’m confident this one will as well.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
