Thank You.

I'd like to thank everyone for their support in reaching the funding goal of $6K. I can't believe this goal has been reached in just 5 days! I thought I might be setting a conservative initial goal, but I'm still amazed at the number of people who have backed this project. Thank you!

Stretch Goals

Your support has inspired me to think bigger and do more, plus new backers are still discovering this project. So, I wanted to take this opportunity to communicate a few stretch goals:

  • Stretch Goal 1, $15K: Increasing Availability On Other Platforms
  • Stretch Goal 2, $20K: Improving Accessibility
  • Stretch Goal 3, $30K: A Third Book In This Series

Stretch Goal 1, $15K: Increasing Availability On Other Platforms

You might have an iPad or OS X, but not everyone does. For instance, plenty of educational institutions opt for lower-cost devices. Also, a number of people who live outside the current distribution area (51 countries, through the iBooks Store) have contacted me to see how they can get the book. This book is currently made with iBooks Author, whose Terms of Use dictate that products created with it be sold on the iBooks Store only. If funding reaches $15K, I'll create a pure EPUB version of this book for distribution on other platforms.

Stay tuned for new rewards, geared toward backers who would like to see the book on other platforms.

Stretch Goal 2, $20K: Improving Accessibility

People use computers in many different ways. I'd like to provide this content in a way such that anyone can access it for whatever reason, regardless of their ability or disability. I've always had plans to improve the accessibility of these books over time, but Kickstarter funding will allow me to make accessibility improvements (such as better interaction with screen readers, and closed captioned video) available sooner than later.

Accessibility improvements will ship as an update to the books distributed through the iBooks Store, so everyone who already owns a copy will receive an updated version as soon as it's available.

For other book makers in the same boat, I'd like to refer you to WWDC 2012 Session 518: Improving Accessibility in Books. The information presented in this session will definitely put you on the right path to making your books accessible to everyone!

Stretch Goal 3, $30K: A Third Book In This Series

I think the title here says it all! :-)

If this Kickstarter reaches $30K, I feel comfortable stating that there will definitely be a third book in this series. And remember, backers of this project will help choose the topic of this third book in an upcoming poll. I'm looking forward to hearing your opinions, and to creating a brand new book!

Thanks again to everyone who has supported this project,
