Completing a first series of sculptures using skulls, clay and mixed media which are scheduled for display in N.Y.C and L.A.
My project is to complete my first series of sculptures and display the last of the pieces in three exciting upcoming gallery exhibits which will take place in New York City and Los Angeles. I have been working on this series for almost four years using animal skulls, clay and mixed media to create fine works of art and I feel the time is right to use these exhibits to finalize a series. Extensive amounts of time, money and dedication have been personally invested so far and now I am definitely eager to bring this one home and move on to new levels of creativity. I am here on Kickstarter to raise funds to cover some of the costs involved in this project.
I’ve been creating art since early childhood and have become seriously focused on it over the past few years. Although I work in a variety of mediums, my sculpture work has definitely taken the main stage. Recently, I was accepted to show at Paul Booth’s famous Last Rites Gallery in New York City; I will have a solo exhibit there this coming December, and I was included in a group show held there last March. I could never have dreamed of such opportunities three and a half years ago when I was finally escaping from a long-time struggle with alcoholism. Things had become so dark that I no longer cared if I lived or died — but the universe had other plans for me.
When I found myself sober, I realized the therapeutic, healing power of art, and was soon just as addicted to being creative as I had been to drinking. To put the icing on the cake, I learned that I was going to be a father — the ultimate motivation to bettering myself and pursuing my art. I feel blessed.
It’s not easy for me to ask for help, but I am excited by this opportunity to join forces, and let the love flow in. It’s equally exciting to offer various forms of my artwork in return for your pledge. I’m tremendously grateful for the love and support from my family and friends. I will continue to create, regardless of the daily grind and the financial challenges — but I feel this is a perfect time and opportunity to take this leap of faith, and go for it.
