Welcome to Sorrowmoor...
Sorrowmoor: This set of serials will be a historical gothic romance set that follows the inhabitants of Sorrowmoor, a spooky Gothic estate. The story will begin in the mid-1800s. I'll write at least 20 installments of 2000 words or more. The serials will be delivered to your inbox as I get them done. Then, I'll have them edited and put into an e-book edition and a print edition. The serials will begin arriving in your inbox no later than January 15th of 2013 (and probably well before that. I just want to give a sure target in case of unforeseen circumstances), and they will continue until the end of 2013 (or longer depending upon what is finished and so on), arriving every two to three weeks. After that, an e-book and print edition will be made. And if the Kickstarter goal is exceeded, I'll have an audio edition done as well and will add options for that.
Who Am I? I'm a gothic romance writer. I enjoy writing serials, novellas, and novels and have a successful historical gothic romance series with Musa Publishing, The Montmoors (three serials are out with at least eight to come which are under contract). I am multi-published in gothic romance and in other genres. My work has been featured in Salon.com. I also teach English at the college level and manage a team of tutors when I'm not writing. www.lisalgreer.com
Why Kickstarter? It takes money to write, edit, format, and and roll out serials in the way I'd like to do it with the freedom I'd prefer (frequently!). I have readers asking me for the next serial, and this way, I can take care of that issue (when I have a publisher, I don't get much say so in release dates and the normal serial format of quick releases doesn't always apply). There will be a new serial every couple weeks, and if you like serials, you'll be the first to read them—raw and untouched—before they ever go on sale at the end of the project! Plus, the price is right if you're a lover of gothic romance and/or serial fiction.
How Will the Money Be Used? I'll use the money for editing the final version, great cover art, formatting for the e-book edition and print editions, making bookmarks, sending out your rewards, and more.
When Will It End? The initial project will end in December 2013, but it depends upon funding. If I reach the first goal and get funded, I'll produce an audio edition, and all funders who pitch in $50 or more will get one. And I may just keep writing and sending you stuff. If I keep hitting goals, I'll think up other cool stuff to do!
Thank you for considering my project. We have just over a month to fund this, so I hope you'll pitch in today and make this project happen.
Risks and challenges
The Risks: As with any writing project or big project, I could have some unforeseeable life event occur such as a serious illness, something happening with a family member, or something I can't even thing of or envision right now. If a major life event occurs, serials might be delayed, and the project might not be completed at the end of next year. Other risks are that cover art, formatting, or editing could be delayed on the final e-book or print version due to a collaborator's life event. I will give you this reassurance, though. Whatever comes up, I will finish the project in the most timely manner possible. I've never left a writing project incomplete.
My Qualifications: I've published with small presses and have self published many books at this point (45 works total with many more contracted/completed or in the works for release) and have collaborated with a variety of cover artists, editors, and formatters who can help me get the job done. I also really enjoy writing in serial format and have completed dozens of gothic romance and romance serials. In the day jobs, I work as a manager of a team of tutors for a large education company, and I edit for an e-book publishing company. I also teach the occasional adjunct English class and have my M.A. in English.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
