About this project
Create an Opportunity
Help us launch the careers of some promising new game developers. Your funding could give a few students their first job as professional video game developers. In addition to those students who get that precious first job, this project will be used as a guideline and an inspiration for many others to follow as they make the leap to release their own original works independently. Don't be shy about over funding the project, excess funds will go towards employing more students on the project. So tell your friends and family and ask them to tell their friends and family!
Trapped in an iceberg for thousands of years, a mighty Viking explorer awakens in a future world where technology, sorcery and holiday themes have become one. Armed with an M16 and his trusty flying penguin, Time Viking rides to pillage again.
Time Viking is an old school side scrolling shooter. The player must kill all enemies and collect their eggs before they fall into the lava. Don’t drop the eggs or tougher enemy will spawn from it. Upgrade your weapons and fight giant bosses. Check out the video for more details!
Where did Time Viking come from?
This project started as a sample game to teach and inspire students in video game programming. At first the only goal was to show what can be accomplished by a single programmer in just 10 weeks.
So What Now?
What started as nothing more than a sample project turned out to be a pretty fun little game. We replaced the programmer art and animations with our own creations and the project really started to have an identity. The next goal is to illustrate how a very small team equipped with nothing more than the tools we learned in class can put together a finished product and get it out there.
We are a small team of game industry veterans, each with 17+ year of experience making some great games. We have worked on games like Ratchet and Clank, Spyro the Dragon, Vigilante Eight, True Crime, Twisted Metal Black and many more.
In addition to our full time jobs as game developers, we each set aside enough time to teach a few classes per quarter in video game development at a local college. We have seen a lot of talented students over the years, but many are having no luck finding jobs during these very difficult times in the industry.
We want to help create jobs and give talented students their break into games by putting their names on a released title. By funding this project you will be helping to give new opportunities for the next generation of developers and inspiring others to make the big push to get some of their own original work out there.
Instead of finishing this project strictly on our own, we would like to create an opportunity for a few students to work with us on it professionally. With $10,000 we will have enough funds to give 2 promising students their first break.
What happens if the project gets over funded?
For every additional 5k
We will hire on an additional student or recent grad who needs game development experience.
We will add another backer designed level.
Another playable character skin.
A new power or weapon designed by the backers.
Rework some of the art and animation. Did you see the space squid god? He needs some art love, need I say more.
and an outrageous and over the top boss that you can help design!
TVE will be released for PC. If the game is over funded by $5,000 the game get an Xbox 360 version and the backers will receive digital copies for both funded formats.
* Only the top 3 design rewards per category will be put into the game. The top 3 will be chosen by the backers via online survey voting . For every 5k the game is over funded another design will be added from each category. For example if the game gets over funded by 10k then the top 5 designs per tier will get into the game. Everyone who buys a design tier will receive design credit even if their design is not voted into the game. Designs are subject to approval by dev team.
Special thanks to David Orr for letting us use his music.
