We are Gianna and Cheyenne, two artists embarking on a creative and collaborative art van adventure.
I am a photographer who shoots mainly black and white candids of my life and travels. Project 603 will turn my van into an art gallery for a tour of 9 states around the West. This project is about creating an outlet to share my photos, collaborating with other artists and living a life of my own design!
I bought the van because I wanted a home, a workspace and the ability to travel. I wanted to move towards sustainability, simplicity and tiny-living. With help from friends and family, I spent the winter converting her into a cozy living space with a bed, kitchen, wood burning stove and solar power.
As a photographer in the digital age, I miss seeing my pictures in print. I also have an enormous collection of photos that I wish dearly to share, particularly from my travels in India. This project will allow me to showcase my own art in print, and to collaborate with others.
I am lucky to have Cheyenne Hendrickson as a collaborator and friend on this trip. She will showcase her own work in the mobile gallery and hopefully be the first of many to join me on art van travels around the states.
I create and present through the body’s senses: touch, smell, motion, and sight. Interactions, compulsions, and movements define my artistic flow. I photograph my adventures, I wear my creations, dance my voice and devote my heart and body to building interactive spaces.
My role in this journey is to design a space where people become a part of the experience instead of just viewers. I will provide opportunities for people to document their perspective through photography and video. I will also create small installations that allow people to play with their senses and each other within the gallery.
So expect surprises!
Along with this collaboration, I will be working on a personal project connecting to my gros-bon-age or mirror image self that is based around the movements between the conscious and subconscious mind.
We plan to visit major cities, small towns and national parks. The trip will be 7 weeks and take us on a looping route from Seattle to New Mexico and back. We will use the funds donated to print a selection of our photographs to display on the van at art walks, parking lots, campgrounds and more. We will be documenting this trip through film, still photography and writing to share with our supporters along the way.
Please support this project and help the art van go!
Risks and challenges
The biggest potential obstacle in this project would be a breakdown of the van. I have been working out any mechanical kinks and testing her road worthiness for the past 8 months, however with any vehicle the potential for a breakdown is there. We would tackle this challenge with patience and creative problem solving, and look to either modify my route or extend my time frame. The projected 7 weeks is not set in stone, we have the freedom to extend this trip to allow for hiccups if the funds are there!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
