Hey everybody! I need your help and we have to act fast! I have a chance to purchase a much bigger etching press than the one I've had for the last ten years. This is a used Charles Brand Press with a press bed that measures 36" by 60". That means I can make woodcuts that are 36" by 60" instead of the significantly smaller size of 20" by 30 " that I am limited to now. It's hard to articulate but having a press this size would change my life immensely , as it would really impact the overall quality of my work. Bigger isn't always better, but in this case not only would my work be much larger, but it would allow for much denser/richer imagery. You'll just have to trust me, this is gonna make my work much better!I have wanted a press this big ever since I finished Grad school almost 20 years ago. The other major benefit of helping me get this press is that it will facilitate my dream of being able to make my printshop "The Woodcut Funhouse " more accessible to the community.I know all too well , just how difficult it is in Mississippi to find a place to print a big woodcut , especially if you are no longer in college. There's pretty much nowhere ! This would be the biggest press in all of Mississippi. And I am going to be very willing to open up my shop to other printmakers that need a place to make a big print. I would also be able to host workshops for the public school students that currently have no place to discover the joys of printmaking.I am a hard working, prolific artist with an unbridled passion for printmaking. This opportunity will impact anyone I am fortunate enough to be able to share my enthusiasm with.
Risks and challenges
there really arent any risks associated with this project , Getting the press will simply allow me to make bigger/ stronger work at the same pace thatI am already producing. Once I get the press, I will make my print shop accessible to artists in my home town of Laurel, Mississippi , as well as other artist in need of a place to print.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
