About this project
More than any other mass media, radio is the original and true voice of a nation, but what about the creative personalities behind the mic? The ones that wake us up on our way to work, who keep us informed and laughing throughout the day and lift up our spirits as we drive home? Who are these invisible men and women that have inadvertently become our heroes and woven themselves into the fabric of our daily lives? This insightful and in-depth documentary (Radio Nation) brings to light the inner workings of KCAL by focusing on the real lives, true drama and business of its morning show, with hosts Stu, Tiffany & Jimbo. It tells the personal stories about real people doing what they love. This documentary strips away the gloss of celebrity and exposes the faces behind the voices. It reveals the behind-the-scene secrets, hard work and sacrifice it takes to make a radio show; which we as listeners consider free and essential, a successful production and the talented and dedicated people who make it possible, in the most competitive market in the country… California. Everyone involved in the show from the Station Programmer, Managers, Writers and Sponsors are showcased to give an Insider’s view on the business of radio. It proves that what we receive through the airways as free is anything but. It shows that the cost of doing a radio program isn’t always measured in dollars. In this day and age of reality TV and blogging, a documentary is the most direct and truthful method of showing the public the world of radio. As the cultural philosopher and media guru Marshall McLuhan said, “To be human is entertainment enough.” Radio Nation is about the humanity behind the business. With state-of-the-art graphics, 3D technology and marrying classic story-telling with a slick, gritty aesthetic, ASM Productions has presented the reality of the radio world as never before seen. The audience will be entertained, informed and enlightened by following the journey of the key players at KCAL 96.7.
