A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:
Proof of Concept
Explorations that test ideas and functionality.
Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.
Looks like the final product, but is not functional.
Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.
Appearance, function, and manufacturing methods match the final product.
There are many visibility-enhancing bike gadgets out there. But what sets Roound apart from all of them is its huge 50 cm electroluminescent strips that vastly improves cyclists visibility in traffic. The high lenght allows for a clear distinction of lights even at great distances.
Inspired on Captain Henry Joseph Roound, our backpack seemlessly integrates a pair of electroluminescent strips that shine both day and night. From an outsider perspective, at first it might seem like a normal backpack, but turn it on and see it shine like no other backpack.
And that's the beauty of Roound. Its electroluminescent strips are so well integrated within the backpack that it effectively becomes a part of the overall design. Wearable technology has never been in such a perfect balance as it is on Roound.
Roound comes with a wireless controller that allows you to signal left and right turns with a flick of a button. Just put the controller in your handle bar and you're good to go.
The remote controller also comes with a built-in accelerometer that detects when you're braking, allowing Roound to automatically communicate your loss of speed to people behind you.
Roound is completely waterproof, no matter the weather conditions, it will always be up for the challenge
With a high capacity built-in battery, you can use Roound for up to 3 days on a single charge and charge your smartphone on the go.
Roound not only has the perfect balance between safety and design, but it is also made to make your commutes extremely practical. If you need to carry laptops, books, cables, clothes, you name it.. you will always find a place inside Roound.
Halwor was born a little more than a year ago with one clear aspiration: to turn cyclism into a truly competitive means of transport for the cities of tomorrow.
Unlike other vehicles, bicycles are ideal for short commutes of about 2-3 miles, and we believe that as cars get pushed out of city centres, bicycles will increasingly be more adopted as the transport of choice. Just like it is now in cities like Copenhaguen or Amsterdam.
But there are many challenges on the road ahead. Safety is still a major threat for cyclists all across the community, and to achieve our aspiration, we wanted to start from here: something that could vastly improve cyclists safety on road, making them more visible to others. This is how Roound was born.
Our supply chain is ready to begin production. Shipping will be divided in 3 rounds. The first round corresponds to those who purchase the Super Early Bird.
Risks and challenges
With every project comes different challenges, and it is no different with Roound.
We have managed to secure a robust supply and manufacturing chain, patent protection, and test-proven technology. Nevertheless, our key technology, the electroluminescent strips have yet to be mass manufactured, and what you see on the pictures is not the final solution, but a functional prototype.
The reason why the strips have yet to be mass manufactured is that it's a unique application, and will require us to order a special mold to be built specially for our intentions. Building a mold for 10 meters of strip would cost us a very high amount, but in economies of scale, this amount is virtually insignificant.
That's why we need your help. By pledging to this campaign, we will be able to achieve what nobody has achieved before: a truly beautiful way to be safer on roads not only during the night but also during the day.
