The story of MARK IT PROUD
On August 16, 2015, Daniel married Aaron.
It was a magical evening filled with family, friends, food and plenty of these...
But as luck would have it, there was a silver-lining to Daniel and Aaron receiving countless generic bowtie-esque wedding cards with the words "Mr. and Mr." strewn across them. Namely, the genesis of an idea. But to make this idea a reality, Daniel would need some help. So he enlisted the talent of his amazing artist-friend Mark Uhre and MARK IT PROUD was born!
The mission of MARK IT PROUD is to not only give those searching for the perfect Wedding, Birthday, Baby, Coming Out and/or Celebratory card a little more variety then can currently be found out in the greeting card aisle, but to expand the visibility of LGBTQ cards as well.
Should our Kickstarter reach its funding goal, MARK IT PROUD is our way of telling generations of past, present and future LGBTQ that it can (and does!) in fact get better. It is our hope that the next time someone walks down their local greeting card aisle, they see that a Wedding, Anniversary, Valentine's Day or Baby Shower card isn't just reserved for those with the title "Mr & Mrs.'
Meet Our Launch Line up of Cards
For our Kickstarter launch we whittled down hundreds of drawings to cover the basics: Wedding, Anniversary, Valentine's Day, Birthday, Baby and Coming Out. The cover of each card is wonderfully illustrated by artist Mark Uhre (bio below) with the space inside being left for you to share your personal message with the ones you love.

While 100% of the funds raised through Kickstarter will go directly to the printing of our cards and fulfilling our backer's rewards, giving back to the LGBTQ community is one of the driving forces behind the MARK IT PROUD project. Both Daniel and Mark recognize how fortunate they are to have grown up in a liberal city (Toronto) surrounding by supportive family and friends. Sadly, not everyone is so lucky. Which is why, should our Kickstarter be successful, 10% of the proceeds from any future sale of our cards through markitproud.com will be donated to LGBTQ inclusive charities such as the "It Gets Better Project," "The Trevor Project" and "You Can Play," among others still to be decided.
Join the Mark It Proud Movement
These are just some of the fine folk who have joined the #markitproud movement. Tag @markitproud on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook and you may find your photo featured on our official feeds. We would be eternally grateful for a #markitproud mention on your Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Tumblr and/or Snapchat.
We need your help to make MARK IT PROUD a reality. Funds raised will go directly to printing our cards, temporary tattoos, lapel pins, limited edition posters, fulfilling our rewards and Kickstarter fees.
Since it only took us five days to reach our rather modest goal of $3600 (THANKS EVERYONE!), it's time to talk about stretch goals. We have two! Firstly, artist and co-founder Mark Uhre is already feverishly working on a beautiful inclusive holiday card (artwork to be posted soon) that we'd like to gift every backer as a bonus should we double our goal at $7200.
The second stretch goal is a bit more altruistic in nature. When we first started the MARK IT PROUD project, the plan was to build buzz by offering free temporary tattoos of our logo to interested parties via Instagram. Needless to say, we were blown away by the number of people who took us up on our offer. Prior to launch we literally spent hundreds of dollars mailing tattoos around the globe. What's more, we loved every minute of it! No really. Nothing could make us happier then helping people from all walks of life, mark it proud and with your help, we can keep doing it. Funds raised over and above our $3600 goal will go towards tattoos and postage ($1 to $3 depending on where the tattoo is being sent) so that we can continue to fulfill the hundreds of requests (pictures above) that we have waiting for us in our Instagram direct message inbox. Many from LGBTQ youth, straight allies and Gay-Straight Alliances.

Risks and challenges
We don't anticipate many risks or challenges should this project be fully funded. The designs are finished, the printing has been quoted and we're ready to go. The only thing we're waiting for is the funding to start the presses.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
