Thanks for checking out my first Kickstarter campaign! I’m excited to share my goal to raise funds to publish and distribute FreeForm: Mission Resumed, book three of the FreeForm trilogy and don’t worry if you haven’t read book one or two yet. Copies are included in the Rewards for helping me reach this goal. The publication of FreeForm: Mission Resumed will also complete a much larger project, The Saga of the Dandelion Expansion. More about that in a minute. Best of all, for your $25 support, you'll receive all six books of The Saga. Why not jump on board now?

Have you ever had an idea and thought, “Wow! That’s brilliant!” Only to find out later that it was a lot more difficult to bring the idea into reality than you’d ever imagined? Well, I had the “brilliant idea” to take two of my science fiction techno-thriller series that were already partially published and merge them together by sharing some of the characters and the plotlines.
After all, both series have a genetic engineering gone bad theme, so why not merge away? Thus was born what has now evolved into The Saga of the Dandelion Expansion, a merging of the FreeForm trilogy with the Kindred trilogy.
The Missing Piece of the Puzzle
FreeForm: Mission Resumed is the third book in the FreeForm trilogy and the sixth book in The Saga of the Dandelion Expansion. It's the missing piece of the puzzle. It's why I'm here at Kickstarter to raise the funds to bring my “brilliant idea” into reality, and still with at least a shred of my sanity still intact.
You can help by pledging $25 & getting a getting a great deal. Speaking of Rewards, let's see take a look at all the goodies.
What You as a Backer Receive in Return (The "Goodies")
Kickstarter Backers are generous people who also know a good deal when they see one. Here are some of the goodies my backers can choose from:
(Limited to one female & one male backer.)
NOTE: Any support above and beyond what's the levels listed here will be greatly appreciated and go a long way towards the production of this book and series. Thanks so much!
Five out of the six books that make up the Saga of the Dandelion Expansion have been published and are available for your reading enjoyment (and included as rewards). I consider FreeForm: Mission Resumed to be the keystone of the mega-project. A keystone is a central stone in the summit of an arch, hooking the whole together, which is what FreeForm: Mission Resumed does.
Here is the timeline for this project:

- Early January, 2018: Finish polishing and revisions.

I started reading science fiction as an eleven-year-old boy when my next-door-neighbor noticed I was driving my single parent mom crazy, hounding her to play with me. Mrs. Crabtree, who happened to be the children’s librarian in Raleigh, brought home a stack of books hand-selected to capture a boy’s imagination. It worked.
I have always felt that science fiction (and fantasy) can be incredibly entertaining while also a perfect way to explore issues of what it is to be a human being. I call this form of literature visionary fiction, and that’s what I endeavor to write: stories that entertain while also inspiring readers to see greater possibilities for their lives.
For example, the books of the Saga of the Dandelion Expansion explore the pros and cons of genetic engineering, especially when greed and the obsession for power take over. On a more personal level, the FreeForm trilogy, including FreeForm: Mission Resumed explores the challenges of finding our place in the world—a world that is forever evolving and becoming more complex. (Imagine the challenge of being an alien raised by humans trying to find his place in the world and how similar that challenge might be as ‘illegal aliens’, i.e. foreigners try to find a way to fit in their new country.
Visionary fiction matters. It helps us to understand more about ourselves and our place in this ever-evolving, complex world, and when it’s done well, it succeeds while also entertaining us. That's why I'm asking you to support this vision with your $25 pledge.
But just like it takes a village to raise a child, it take a team to "raise" a book, so let me introduce you to my team:
I love being an indie author most of the time except when it comes to sending one of my new babies out into the world. Man, it’s not cheap. That’s why I’m hoping to kickstart this next project and do it right. You can be a great help by pledging $25 or more to this project. Go ahead, I'll wait. :-) Here’s where the money will go.
Exclusive Book Rewards
Since this is a collaborative effort, I want to be sure to do my part to reward all backers which include printing Kickstarter Exclusive books then shipping them to the extraordinary backers with my thanks.
I received a really honest review the other day from an editor. “You are an awesome, very talented, imaginative writer! But you can't spell worth a flip…lol!” Ouch! The truth hurts sometimes, but she’s right. Editing is an important part of creating a quality book, and good editing isn’t cheap.
Book Cover Design
“A picture is worth a thousand words.” When it comes to book covers, it’s the picture and layout on the cover that most often sells the words inside. And those covers aren’t cheap. After all, graphic artists need to make a living too!
Marketing & Promotion
Okay, we’ve got a book written, edited and with a killer cover. Guess what? We still haven’t sold a book yet. In fact, chances are we’ll need to send out a hundred or more books (called ARCs - Advance Reviewer Copies) and we still haven’t sold a book or made a buck. That’s why marketing and promotion is so important. Indie authors need to get the word out that their next ‘Great American Novel’ is ready and waiting for avid readers. Once again, an effective marketing plan takes both time and money to pull off.
There are always costs that don’t fit into any one category, like the percentage of the campaign money that needs to go to Kickstarter to keep this incredible service available.
Let's take a look at what's in each book starting with FreeForm: (Book 1)
A top-secret investigation on a secluded mountaintop and a mystery that will rock the world
In 1993, a remote North Carolina mountaintop is the site of an event destined to change the course of mankind and Earth itself, discovered and investigated by Pat Vogt, a junior member of the Bureau of Investigation of Unidentified Flying Objects. A slight woman with a hard streak of determination that would put larger men to shame, Pat insists on being dropped into the remote wilderness area, a feat her pilot thinks is insane, but for Pat, it's all in a day's work. It brings her face to face with Earth’s first verifiable UFO and sets into motion a series of events that not only threatens her life but destroys her career.
Ten years later, Pat, now a private investigator, returns to the nearby town of Waynesboro to try to put the nightmarish events that happened on that mountaintop to rest. Waynesboro is larger now, but the mountains are the same and the mystery surrounding them just as puzzling. A chance encounter leads her to Dr. Allan Pritchard, the town's small animal vet with secrets of his own.
FreeForm Reborn: (book 2)
With the primary mission in jeopardy, the aftermath of its destruction threatens to tear one family apart…
With the brutal murder of his alien father, Homlin, still a vivid memory, young and impressionable TJ must undertake a journey of self-discovery in order to come to terms with the undeniable truth about his origins. The truth behind his alien heritage can no longer be denied, and the strange power of transformation that comes with it leads TJ down a path of realization and self-determination as he struggles to find his place in this world.
From the small town of Waynesboro, the effects of Homlin’s primary mission ripple outwards into the world, carrying with it a promise of destruction and assimilation. Is the world safe from Homlin’s true purpose? Is TJ just a dangerous pawn in his primary mission? Or has the battle for the fate of the Earth only just begun?
Return now to Waynesboro at the turning of the tides. Join Pat, Allan, and TJ as they salvage the remains of their dysfunctional and unconventional family, and attempt to make sense of the awful reality that has come to alter their world.
FreeForm: Mission Resumed (book 3 coming soon.)
There are many things to fear in this life: the enemies within and without.
It has been many moons since Sergeant Todd John Jacobs has thought of himself as just TJ. No longer the young boy who had grown up as part of Homlin’s primary mission, Todd is now part of the elite Army Rangers. He’d hoped the Rangers would become his new home and family, but instead, he finds himself surrounded by chaos and intrigue.
No stranger to adversity, his struggles to start a new life come up against some of his toughest enemies yet for they hide in the shadows. Facing the loss of his new life and identity, Todd finds himself caught up in a game much bigger than himself. Powerful forces have their eyes on Todd, lying in wait for him to slip up, as all humans are prone to do. However, Todd is no human, and he is far from ordinary. In the background, an elite team assembles, and life as he knows it will never be the same.
You can read the opening scene of FreeForm: Mission Resumed online (along with a few tips I learned from this year's NaNoWriMo. (Just remember, this is the start of book #3 so you'll be reading well into the story.)

Risks and challenges
Having been a professional writer for close to thirty years, I know few projects of this size ever goes without a few hiccups along the way, some the size of a minor earthquake. At the same time, I've learned to flow with these unanticipated ups and downs.
With this particular project, I've already managed to publish five of the six books that make up the Saga of the Dandelion Expansion, and book #6 is written and in revision mode. I have a number of editors that I've worked with in the past available as well as a wonderful graphic designer who has done the other five covers. The rest of my team is waiting in the wings ready for you to join us.
This project will happen. All it needs is the 'green fuel' to move forward.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
