Sculpting Courses; Not Just a Tutorial Video
Tour Our Classroom Today!
Here is a quick tour of the eclassroom that we will be using for the courses. It shows you the eclassroom and the features of the classroom. You can see how these courses are different than a basic how to video. These are full courses.
Ever want to sculpt your own model conversions or miniatures? Want to learn the sculpting skills and techniques needed to take your painting and modeling projects to the next level? Veteran miniature sculptor James Van Schaik reveals the secrets of miniature sculpting in easy to follow and interactive eLearning courses. The goal of the Kickstarter is to provide the capital needed to film the courses and make them assessable to the miniature painter, modeler, hobbyist and aspiring sculptor. These courses can be taken by all skill levels from someone just starting out in the miniature hobby to veteran painters, modellers and sculptors. There is something for everyone!
This project is a series of eLearning courses that will be offered through Litmos virtual classrooms; introducing state of the art classrooms that allow students to learn at their own pace from any location in the world including the comfort of his painting desk at home to his mobile phone on a long commute. Also, students will have access to an online learning community and campus where students will be able to receive peer to peer critiques, share ideas, ask questions, which will be answered by the instructor, James Van Schaik, and receive the attention of the sculptor as needed.
The course content will include integrated high quality HD videos, online references, recommendations for course resources, and pdf print outs explaining techniques. The courses have been developed by James Van Schaik and have been formatted in an easy to follow sequence so anyone, whether you consider yourself an artist or not, can learn and succeed at sculpting and modelling.
James Van Schaik has been sculpting for over 20 years and has worked with many of the large gaming and toy companies. To see his portfolio, go to http://www.flickr.com/photos/24546626@N04/.

Below are some samples of the courses. These are demo quality. Filming and editing will be repeated for the courses to create clear, white video footage and pdfs will have additional information. Every course will have pdfs with quick guides, references and resources. Every course will have several modules; the difficulty of the course will reflect the number of modules.
Below is a video on blending. This does not represent the finished product as slides will be redone and the video will be refilmed and edited with high quality lighting.
Below are two pdfs that will be used for two courses. One is for the course on skulls and bones, the other is for the course on male anatomy. They are not the complete guides and do not reflect the full product.
Want to know what you can get with the kickstarter rewards, Greg has provided us with an excellent spreadsheet to see it all. Thanks Greg and check it out here.
Risks and challenges
The key to this project is to create as little risk to you as possible. The framework for the courses have been established as has all the groundwork for the classroom. The website has a description of all the courses that we will be offering eventually with 30 videos being the main goal for this kickstarter. The challenge for Fire For Effect Studios is in getting all of the videos filmed without funding.
The funds we are looking to raise are simply to cover the production costs of 30 videos; paying for the filming and videoediting. We are not asking for funding for our time to film them, which is why we are offering them at a limited time discount through kickstarter for our backers. After kickstarter, the courses will be released at their full price. Another advantage that will help offset the risks and challenges is that the packages have been designed to offer you the best possible cost for the courses as a reward for backing the project. Backers will enjoy savings of up to 75% of what these courses will be offered for after the kickstarter.
The minimal risk of this kickstarter is the time it takes for us to film and edit the courses. We designed our kickstarter with this in mind and with a successful kickstarter, we will be in the position to give our backers access to the courses as they are filmed. Our goal is to get you started as soon as possible and plan to launch our first classes in January, between 7 to 10 courses. The actual curriculum for all the courses offered is already written and ready to go. Our plan is to have all our base courses listed in our initial goals in our classrooms by the end of April, 2014 and with a successful campaign we can. Stretch goal courses and figure incentives will be finished after that.
Backers to the kickstarter will be given codes for the classroom as soon as the courses are finished. They have an unlimited time to redeem the code and after activating their course, they have 30 days to take the course and download the content. The limit in activation is due to the classroom platform. Backers have lifelong access to the forum campus so if all you can do is download the course in those 30 days, you have as long as you want to go through it and ask questions on the campus forum.
Courses will be released as they are completed to both backers and the general public. The kickstarter will get those courses out to you faster.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
