I FLY, TOO takes place in Brooklyn in the early 2000s. Marci, an African hijab-wearing Muslim teenager, waits to hear back from colleges. As the year winds down and the weather gets nicer, she finds herself spending more and more time at a park and less at her family’s chaotic home. She welcomes the distraction of watching older boys from school skateboarding.
As the days pass, the boys start to anticipate her presence. Eventually she meets one and begins a friendship, founded by a mutual love of skateboarding.
At home, the fights between Marci’s parents are getting louder and more violent. It is proving increasingly difficult for her to stay silent as she watches the bruises add up on her mother’s body. When her father finds out Marci intends to leave the city for college, his anger is uncontrollable. It is up to Marci to finally take a stand with the help of her skateboard.
Upon completion of this project we aim to submit it to festivals, as well as, host our own premiere of it! Stay tuned...

Risks and challenges
This project is very near and dear to the heart - a passion project - that we aim to give our all to and with respect to the story and what it represents. Our challenges include finding a cast for this diverse film that speaks true to the script as representation is very important to us. Also, our scenes involving skateboarding will provide trickier as we figure out what props on set will be needed to safely and expertly capture the physicality of this film and New York culture. We recognize the crew will have to exert a lot of energy to keep up with the pace of this story in order to capture its essence. Of course, there will also be a lot of learning on set as we proceed to produce this project. For some of us - like our director - it will be our debut! We appreciate your support throughout this process- it really means the world.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
