About this project
<Did you get all that? Good! If not and you just don't want to press the play button again heres a more detailed description of what we're aiming for here.
We're raising money to promote and create artwork and music videos for our new album entitled Dark of the Daylight. The good news is that the album is finished and ready for your listening pleasure. It was carefully crafted in Los Angeles by us and our extraordinarily talented producer Nick Launay (Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Arcade Fire, the list goes on...). The bad news is that our label has decided not to continue funding our project like they were before so we've been doing what we can just to get the record out (legally) so people can enjoy it. Now its finally going to happen! For an even more detailed description of our story and why the long delay, please read the bio section of this Kickstarter page.
In order for us to be able to tour and visit your hometown, we'll need a bit of a promotional campaign for the album. It would really help to have a music video or two for this as well as some artwork and photos. None of this is free of course so that's why we need you. Fortunately the album is paid for which is a huge expense and you won't have to wait very long to get your copy of it. Our release date is June 18th! Yes, this year (2013).
If we reach our goal we'll have a modest amount of money to be able to create an inexpensive (but really cool) music video, create some additional content for the album (artwork and photos), hire an online promo team for a short period of time, make some minor repairs on our van and trailer, and a couple of small pieces of gear that are crucial for touring.
We want to make one really great music video for our song entitled Six Foot Tall. We have some great friends here in Los Angeles who have access to really nice cameras and even some special effects hookups. With even just a small budget we can make a really great video that we can use as a promotional tool while we get the word out about our album
We need to use a small portion of the money we raise to pay our extremely talented artist Josh Mongeau (also did the debut album) to finish the artwork for this album. As you can see we have an album cover but we'll need more artwork for the inside jacket of the CD and a digital booklet to be released with the download. We can also use this artwork to create more merch to be sold at our shows.
We want to hire a PR company for a little while to help us gain some traction with different online publications so we can get our album reviewed and spread the word. We have a great contact at Sideways Media who can help us with this.
Finally we're planning a tour which is really the best promotion for us. We're going to sweep the US and also Canada during the months of July and August. We have lots of ideas in store for this tour and are really excited for it. In order to leave LA, we'll need a few things (not major) for our van and trailer to ensure complete safety on the road as well as some minor pieces of gear. If you've been to a show of ours you'll know we're total gear heads and this stuff isn't cheap.
Since $15,000 isn't a lot for all of this and we won't know what we're going to end up with after we fulfill all of the rewards, our priority is for the first two items listed - a music video and artwork. If we go beyond our goal, well, obviously things will be a lot better for Crash Kings and we can spend more on certain things. Mostly, we'll spend more on the promotions and music videos.
If we earn enough (over $50,000 or something crazy) we'll start socking that money away for recording new music that we've been working on.
This can be the start of something really great. We're cutting out the middle man here which means we have an opportunity to do really great things and share them immediately if we want.
We're offering up some really special rewards here in addition to the download of our new album.
The printed CD version of our album with all of the artwork is only available in stores in Canada but we're able to get you a copy though this site. Every CD that gets ordered from here will be signed by Tony and Mike.
There is an exclusive tshirt and hoodie design (see below) that will only be available through this Kickstarter campaign.
Piano keys... god knows how many pianos and keyboards Tony has owned in the past. Some of them have gotten trashed for one reason or another and we have saved some of the piano keys from them. We're offering these up here as a reward. Theres a limited number to make sure you don't miss out!
There are some other great rewards like a private listening party here in Los Angeles and even a private party at YOUR house! If you're a big fan but can't pony up the cash for the prize you want then theres another way you can help - SHARE THIS WITH EVERYONE YOU KNOW!!!!
Thank you in advance so very much for your support. We hope to see you at one of our shows in your hometown very soon.
Risks and challenges
With all things in life there are risks but you gotta take the risks if you're going to get anywhere. The good thing for you is that we can 100% guarantee delivery of an album we're super proud of because its already done! And we can't wait to share... Should be a fun year!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
When the Kickstarter campaign is finished on June 14th we will send out a survey to all of the backers asking for information such as your tshirt/hoodie size and mailing info. Please be on the lookout during that time for an email from us. Thanks!
