For the longest time getting custom waterslide decals for your own personal hobby projects was a tedious, confusing chore. Designing the artwork, making sure the colors were accurate, pricing decal printing by colors, minimum orders of sheets, etc. Fallout Hobbies makes these hassles a thing of the past!
Getting custom one-off decal designs manufactured in white toner is quickly becoming impossible since the cessation of ALPS printer ink and tech support in May of 2015. Now there are only 2 types of laser printers in the world that can print one-off single sheets of decals in white toner and Fallout Hobbies intends to acquire one of those models.
Now with Fallout Hobbies you can stretch your ideas for custom decals as wide as your imagination. We will use top of the line equipment and the finest quality materials to create lasting and durable custom decals for your hobby projects.
Fallout Hobbies is changing the game!
Step 1. Send Fallout Hobbies a hand drawn sketch, image from the internet, or your vector/ raster artwork of the decals you want created. We accept all file formats and can work with pretty much anything.
Step 2. Fallout Hobbies will redraw the supplied artwork in vector format for ultra crisp printing. The customer will get an opportunity to proof the decal design before moving onto step 3.
Step 3. Fallout Hobbies will gang up multiples of your artwork in various sizes and shapes on a sheet or to specific sizes as indicated by the customer. Then we’ll print that sheet out for a flat rate of $35 and then an additional $15 for each additional sheet ordered.
Sheets are 5.5” x 8.5” with transparent backing. Larger size sheets can be special ordered. Sheets can be printed in white or black as well as full color toner.
A full tabletop army can most likely be completed with just one sheet, but it never hurts to order extra sheets for the future.
The base price of $35 is based on 1-2 custom graphics per sheet. Additional fees may be incurred for extra graphics. If vector artwork is supplied with multiple graphics, no additional fees will be incurred.
What makes Fallout Hobbies superior to producing decals at home?
There are several reasons honestly, aside from the convenience and quality control measures in place, the most defining difference is “Underprinting”
What is underprinting?
It’s simple really. It’s what professional decal companies can do what home users cannot.
A typical home laser or inkjet printer uses transparent ink and prints on light colored surfaces, such as white paper. When you print transparent colored ink on home use decal paper, the subsequent decal is transparent as well. Meaning it looks great on light surfaces, but hardly vidible on dark surfaces.
Fallout Hobbies uses underprinting which allows us to first print an opaque layer of white ink, then a subsequent layer of colors on top of it. This means when the decal is applied to a dark color surface it is still vibrant and striking.
Underprinting will be standard on all of out pre-designed decal sheets as well as all custom designed sheets for customers.
Now you can get decals that are just expertly manufactured and detailed as any GW or Forgeword sheet but purely unique and customized for your army. Let your imaginations run wild, there is no limit to the amount of colors on your decals!
Pre-Designed Decal Sheets
Fallout Hobbies will feature an ever expanding selection of pre-designed decal sheets for various war-game and sci-fi model applications. Currently there are over a dozen designs in the works and we intend to add new sheet designs bi-weekly as the store grows. (Please visit www.FalloutHobbies.com to view the complete current product list.)
What do we need $6,000 for?
Printing in white toner is not a common feature amongst laser printers. In fact there are only two laser printers in the world that can handle white toner since ALPS printers are no longer being manufactured or supported as of May 2015. OkiData from Germany makes one of those two laser printers.
The OKI C711WT alone is $3,995. So that's most of the Kickstarter goal. The remaining $2,005 is to cover the cost of media materials, Perks for Backers (see below), Kickstarter fees and some wiggle room in case we need to purchase extra equipment.
This is a demonstration video of the OKI c711WT printing in white toner.

Perks, Perks, Perks!
Perks for Backers. You all want them, and we want to give you some awesome ones!
Perk #1 / Lots of decals
All backers will various decals of their choosing from our pre-designed range as well as custom decals of their own design. Pimp out your armies in style! (Pledge rewards are designed to be between 20-40% off what the full retail price will be in August.)
Perk #2 / Awesome Posters!
Almost all backers will be receiving an awesome set of propaganda style posters. Perfect for that man-cave you always wanted! (due to popular request, posters can be substituted for an additional pre-designed decal sheet in pledge rewards)
Perk #3 / Cool Shirts Bro!!!
Backers for $100 or more will be receiving awesome t-shirts of their choice! The ladies love cool wargame shirts!
Stretch Goal #1 - FUNDED!
If the funding goes over $7,000 Fallout Hobbies will be able to start producing self adhesive vinyl airbrush stencils. There will be Pre-designed sheets as well as the option for customs assigned sheets just like the decals. Perfect for large scale models and terrain! (Since this goal has now been funded any backer can substitute a pre-designed decal sheet for a pre-designed vinyl stencil sheet in pledge rewards, or substitute a custom designed decal sheet for a customs designed vinyl stencil sheet.)
Stretch Goal #2
If the funding goes over $8,000 Fallout Hobbies will be able to start producing not only resin battle bases but a new line of basing products we call "Tech-Tiles". These would be 4"x4" 3D tiles that repeat seamlessly when placed end-to-end. They would be only 3mm thick so you could easily cut them with a hobby knife to add instant texture to small and large areas.
These Tech-Tiles would be ideal for custom terrain, dioramas, scratch built vehicles, backgrounds for display figures and much, much more.
The initial designs will be more sci-fi oriented-fantasy and military themed ones will come later on.
When will I get my stuff?
After a successful Kickstater campaign conclusion, the timeline will be as follows.
Week 1. It will take about a week for funds to hit our bank account. From there we will immediately order all the equipment, media and perks for backers. At this point we will also order all the necessary shipping supplies. We already have a workspace to accomdate the business and software needed to create the custom decals.
Week 2. We will receive the printer and media, set up equipment and start designing. We will be in heavy contact this week with backers regarding custom decal orders and will start printing the pre-designed sheets as well.
Week 3. The t-shirts and posters should have arrived by now and we can start packing and shipping out backers decals + perk packages.
Week 4. We will continue to work through the custom decal orders for the backers until successfully completed and shipped.
Week 5. The actual website www.FalloutHobbies.com goes live and backers will be able to start using their discount codes for their next orders.
Week 6. If the stretch goals have been funded then at this point we would begin getting the airbrush stencils and Tech-Tiles produced.
Week 7. Onwards and upwards! Sky is the limit.
Q. If I provide my own vector artwork is there a limitation to how much I can print on a sheet?
A. If you provide your own predesigned vector artwork, then there is no limitation on how many graphics are on the sheet.
Q. What if I want specific measurements for decals on my sheet?
A. No problem, just let us know when you place the order.
Q. What if I want decals sheets larger than 5.5” x 8.5”?
A. The decal paper size goes up to 8.5x11. We will be able to do larger sheets for custom prices. Also, in the future we may offer larger sheet versions of our most popular pre-designed sheets.
Q. What happened if the kickstarter gets extremely funded and there is a large volume of custom designs that will need to be created. Will that slow the timetable down.
A. Absolutely not, We would immediately hire more graphic designers to assist with the volume of design work and prevent any delays.
Q. Can I print GW, Privateer Press or other IP protected designs?
A. Well this is a tough one. If you are not reselling any of the decals and using them for private use then I would say it’s not a problem. I mean black templars use a maltese cross, Ultra marines use an upside down omega symbol, and Michael Moorcock invented the Chaos symbol in the 70’s. So many of these symbols are open game and the ones that are not usually already have official decal sheets produced already negating the need for this service. This policy will be solidified by the time the store is officially open.
Q. How will the decals be shipped?
A. USPS First Class with tracking and USPS International. The decals will be securely encased in a plastic wrapper with a cardboard backing to prevent folding during transit.
Risks and challenges
The risks of a small project like this are minimal. There might be technical set-up issues and some minor logistics issues in the beginning. But we have IT and shipping resources at our disposal from our other business ventures that we can carry over to Fallout Hobbies if need be.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
