About this project
In the dark corners of the new centuries, there are people who use their magic. Many practice the art, but the bands of rogues who stalk the city with profit and power as their only motive use the magic as it was never intended. And it is their stories that we wish to tell.
“Dirty Magick” is the new urban fantasy anthology series from Lucky Mojo Press. Focusing on the intersection of two genres (fantasy and detective/crime), these collections will focus on a recent alternative history where magic survives and flourishes in the concrete heartbeat of the big cities. But, more so, it will concentrate on the ne'er-do-wells who use magic to commit crime and the hard boiled wizards who would stop them. And, as always, the supernaturals will observe, acting only when the time is right.
Each volume will be devoted to a different city. The first will be set in Los Angeles, the genesis of the noir movement. With its harsh sunlight and sharp shadows, the city of so many millions provides the perfect cover for those who would use the arts for their own greed.
Also, each collection will have featured writers. Neal Pollack (Alternadad, Downward Facing Death) has agreed to be the first featured author for "Dirty Magick: LA." We are hoping with completed funding, we can secure a second featured author.
“Dirty Magick: LA” will be released as a POD trade paperback and as an e-book in all formats.
Risks and challenges
Finding enough stories to fit into our limitations (urban fantasy, crime element, Los Angeles setting) will be the hardest part. Then, getting all of those stories together and edited by Memorial Day, plus art and layout will also be tough. But we have set a timeline and divided the work so that we can achieve these.
We have connections to many authors who will be interested in our world and we have the experience to get the best layouts in a quick amount of time.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
