We follow mathematician-turned-explorer Giancarlo Gianazza on his quest for the Holy Grail. Guided by the Divine Comedy, he travels to the Kjölur highlands in the heart of Iceland, accompanied by an eclectic mix of fellow believers. The group led by numbers and impelled by the unknown, discover more than just each other and themselves on this uncharted journey towards greater meaning.
☞ THE MAKING of FINDING THULE
FINDING THULE is a feature documentary film that tells the story of the Italian researcher and explorer Giancarlo Gianazza, who dedicated the last 13 years of his life to the studies of The Divine Comedy by Italian poet Dante Alighieri. During this long period of research he discovered a secret meaning hidden between the verses of Dante's masterpiece, and with mathematical precision decoded the poem into a treasure map leading him to a precise location in Iceland - the ancient Thule.
We meet Giancarlo at a ground breaking moment, when together with a team of internationally acclaimed geophysicists from the University of Vienna, he finally proved the need for an excavation.
For over 10 years Mr. Gianazza has speculated about the nature of this potential discovery. According to his hypothesis, gravitating around the historical period in which Dante lives and writes, this map may lead to a chamber guarding ancient documents brought and buried in Iceland by the Knights Templar in 13th century AD - hence the connection to the Grail.
It is in 2014 when our crew first joined Giancarlo and his team in Iceland. It is last year, when geophysical surveys revealed the presence of an anomalous structure in the ground. Last year, we left Iceland full of questions and great expectations. Today, the expectations are more vibrant than ever as all answers are about to be given.
But in order to immortalise this important moment in history and make it available and for everybody to witness, we need to go back to Iceland to document the last stage of Giancarlo's journey and together be part of what could be the greatest archaeological discovery of our time!
Despite the magnitude of its subject, the film goes beyond Mr. Gianazza's research. It's a story about determination and passion but especially it's a story about unity and companionship. Giancarlo is not alone on this quest. For over a decade, in fact, he has been surrounded by friends who have stayed beside him and who have given him the strength to move forward without ever look back. These are the companions who preserved the spirit of this never ending quest.

☞ HOW CAN YOU HELP?
When in April 2014 we embarked on this journey and set out to film the extraordinary adventure of Giancarlo Gianazza, we knew it was going to be a road of many obstacles. And yet, nothing could stop us. But it is now that we are facing the greatest challenge, the final expedition to Iceland. The sink or swim. And this is why we are asking for your help.
We are independent filmmakers and this has many advantages such as the creative freedom that we cherish most. However, it also means that we do not have access to great financial support and our resources are limited. In the past few years, Iceland has become a very expensive country and unfortunately, also because of this reason, we have now run out of fuel.
This is a disastrous combination and it is why it is only through your help and support that we can carry on filming and bring this story to you. It is only with your contribution, which doesn't necessarily have to be monetary but can also take other forms (such as help us spreading the voice and sharing this link) that this journey can continue. Without your help we are lost, stuck in the middle of the road:
We are very positive and we believe that together we can do it. The entire sum raised on Kickstarter will go to this year's expedition to Iceland. Take a look at where the money you donate will go:
We need to ensure that our crew has a safe and warm place where to rest and recharge batteries for another hard day of outdoor shooting, which starts every day at dawn and finishes at dusk. Considering that during this time of the year the sun never goes down!
Located in Kerlingarfjöll highlands, this is the only refuge within miles of the first town and this is what makes it so expensive. The only way of reaching it, transporting both crew and equipment, is by renting two massive 4x4 cars. And let me tell you they ain't cheap!
Together with transportation and accommodation, there is a list of essential film equipment. This is nonetheless one of the biggest expenses to cover and one of the most important, only after our brave crew of course!
Film is a great tool for spreading awareness on the world we live in. It is under these premises that Mr. Gianazza agreed on being filmed and share his story with us. By doing so, he wanted to make sure that everybody would finally know the truth about one of the greatest mystery of our past.

☞ IF WE CAN'T HE WILL !!
Risks and challenges
We have spent the past year and a half working hard on the making of FINDING THULE and we are positive about its success. We have a very good understanding of the story that we want to tell and the knowledge of how to translate it in on screen.
Last year we embarked on this adventure without really knowing what would happen next. This year, however, we are more confident and certainly more prepared to face what will happen in Iceland.
We are very determined to see this project through till the end. But we are aware that there will be challenges awaiting us even after the production of the film.
Making a film is difficult. Finding money to make it it's almost impossible unless you are an already established filmmaker.
We believe that once all the material is put together, we will have something strong to show to possible film distributors who, we hope, will be interested in financing the post-production of FINDING THULE, sell the film and finally seeing it come to life on the big screen!
We acknowledge that we'll need patience to accomplish our mission, nevertheless we deeply cherish this virtue - it shapes the process till the project's completion, and we shall never loose it!
To make our goal more graspable, we set a date on which we want the film to be brought to you: September 2016.
At this moment, we already want to thank you - thank you for your time and support of any kind!
