In 1903, the Brown & Bigelow Cigar Company commissioned sixteen oil paintings from artist Cassius Marcellus Coolidge. 9 of them depicted dogs playing poker. One such example is "A Bold Bluff".
Cassius' art became derisively well known in the United States as examples of mainly working-class taste in home decoration, synonymous with kitsch and tackiness. They also became incredibly popular and famous, and stand as icons of Americana. Having long since entered the public domain, they have the distinction of being some of the most printed, most copied, and most recognizable art ever made.
I created this image, "Dogs Playing D&D", as a parody of "A Bold Bluff", because I wanted to hang something like this in my Man Cave. However, as an avid fan of role-playing games, the poker version just didn't cut it.
Upon displaying the finished work to friends, I was immediately beset by requests for prints.
One poster is $20 shipped anywhere in the US or add $10 for shipping anywhere in the world.Prints will be shipped in sturdy poster tubes by USPS.
If one print isn't enough and you need another one just double your pledge amount. Two posters = $40 etc. And any pledge over $25 will get them all autographed.
Due to popular demand, I've looked into the feasibility of, and decided to set up the following stretch goals:
$6000 - Alternate Version (UNLOCKED!)
At the conclusion of the campaign, I will survey my backers, weighing the results by their relative contributions. Whichever game version/system (1st Edition AD&D, for example, or Pathfinder) gets the most votes will be created as an alternate version, using those books, in place of the current 3rd Edition books the dogs are holding. Backers may choose which of the two versions they would like to receive.
(Regardless of voting, the original 3rd edition poster will be printed... that way, folks can always get at least that version, in case their favorite isn't a winner.)
$7000 - 2nd Alternate Version (UNLOCKED!)
The top two alternate versions will be made. Backers may choose which of the three versions they would like to receive.
$8000 - 3rd Alternate Version (UNLOCKED!)
The top three alternate versions will be made. Backers may choose which of the four versions they would like to receive.
Risks and challenges
The biggest challenge is getting enough backers in order to cover the cost of printing a batch of posters. As well, the more posters printed, the lower the cost to print, and the better incentive to doing cool projects like this in the future.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
