3D printing is revolutionizing the making of jewelry. We are taking one more step. Making everything unique.
We are being talked about...
3D printing is at a turning point
Not every design can be printed and not everything 3D printed will look good. Hence, 3D printed products require product development like any other product - especially since 3D printing has many limitations. It is not what it is claimed to be, else every one around you will already be wearing 3D printed stuff. Only a handful, like n-e-r-v-o-u-s systems and Bathsheba have achieved, through dedicated efforts 3D printed items of impressive quality. It takes dedication and a lot of trial and error to be able to 3D print beautiful things.
3D printing is not for mass manufacturing. It does not make sense to 3D print the same item again and again. There is no efficiency gain in printing the same design repeatedly. Every item can now be different and unique - there is value in that.
If we can create value through uniqueness instead of creating value through over pricing. If people can express their own personal taste and preferences, we can make 3D printed goods more personal and meaningful. We want to prove that this is possible.
We will be using the proceeds to demonstrate this possibility at a certain scale. We have got the pieces working, we need to put it together and make it viable by developing more designs, software and services that will pave the way for the creation of jewellery and products of the future.
We do not crowd sourcing our designs. We work instead with a growing community of skilled designers with a commitment to quality - so that you don't have to sieve through thousands of poor quality designs to find something that you like. We ensure that all the designs created are not only different to each other but are of a certain design quality.
All our items are 3D printed by Shapeways. The turbofan, alloy wheels and wave ring is made of silver. The Zaha ha ha design is made of Alumide and the I-tweet and angels are made of ABS plastic. You can take a closer look of the printed items in our Flickr page.
Generative design enables our designers to create an unending range of designs based on genetic models that they create. Our designs generate a lot of designs and select and modify the best ones. In each collection we will sell only 1000 items.
We hope that we have your support in kickstarting this project. You can pledge to be either a backer, supporter or sponsor - for which you can have an item from our inaugural collection at a very special pricing.
STEP 1 : You can preview the collection that we are building at One Just One and decide on your level of support.
- Backers can book from Angel or I-tweet collection
- Supporters can book from Zaha ha ha or Turbofan collection
- Sponsors can book from Wave Ring or Alloy Wheel collection
STEP 2 : According to your pledge level you can make a booking of the design that you like.
STEP 3 : As soon as we reach our kickstarter target goal of raising 3000$ we will order your design to be printed through Shapeways and they will ship it directly to you.
We hope that you the future of 3D printing the way we see it. That it will, change in amazing ways the nature of what we can create, that it help create distinctive unique items - that are as unique as you are.
If you see it that way, here is your chance to support us and own a piece of history that ushered that change.
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
We have test printed one each of our launch items. Shapeways so far has been reliable in terms of shipment time. We are how ever not equipped to handle large order volumes primary in terms of preparation for 3D printing - which still involves some manual steps. This may cause a few weeks of delay. We have therefore limited the maximum order to 400 items.
3D printing is still a young technology, we have noticed minor variations in quality in our test prints. While materials like silver is time tested, materials like Alumide are relatively new and we are concerned about its grittiness and issues with skin contact (currently we are only making hanging earnings with it with no skin contact). We are also concerned about the porosity of 3D printed items in plastic as they can discolor. Despite these limitations jewellery is currently being 3d printed and worn by many.
We plan to stay in touch with our customers/fans and keep a watchful eye on issues that are of concern to us.
