I am like many people in that I always have to be making or working on something. I can't just sit still for a long period of time without having something to keep my hands busy. I, of course, ended up with a big pile of completed items that were taking up space in my home. Thus began my Etsy store.
I have now expanded my interests to include chainmail. I taught myself how to make chainmail several years ago. I had a previously successful kickstarter for stretchy chainmail bracelets and ornaments. The success of that kickstarter allowed me to stock up on many supplies so I would have the opportunity to experiment more and come up with some of my own designs.
Things have progressed so well for me since that kickstarter, that I am wanting to do another one! I gave some thought to what I wanted to have as my rewards for this one, and I am very pleased with the selection I have chosen.
I have been continuing with attending the craft fairs, however I have been limited to the indoor events, as I do not have the needed tent/equipment needed for outdoor events. My goal with this kickstarter is to raise enough money to be able to purchase a tent and accessories for outdoor fairs, and to be able to purchase a gridwall display to showcase my items at all the craft fairs. If things really take off with this kickstarter, then any additional funds will be used to add square wire cut rings to my supplies.
The items below were made with anodized aluminum and/or EDPM rubber rings. The rubber rings are latex-free. These bracelets are made approximately 8 inches long, but if you need a little shorter or longer, I can accommodate!
The colors available for anodized aluminum are:
• Sky Blue
• Royal Blue
• Gunmetal (dark gray)
• Frost (matte white)
The colors available for EPDM rubber are:
• Light Blue
Barrel Weave Bracelet
As a nod to my previously successful kickstarter, I did want to include a stretchy chainmail bracelet as an option. I went with a weave that was not available in my previous kickstarter, and chose the barrel weave bracelet. Since they have that stretch to them, no clasp is needed at all! They stretch over your hand to fit snugly on your wrist.
These are made with black rubber rings and your choice of aluminum color.
Celtic Star Pendant Necklace
This is an adaptation of the normal Celtic Star in that it incorporates the rubber rings in it. Because of this, it is a little flexible, and is fun to fidget with. Pendant will be sent on a black chain with lobster clasp.
These are made with black aluminum and black rubber rings, but also have some colored rubber rings to add a splash of vibrancy. You can choose which color you like!
Big Ring Byzantine Bracelet
This weave is one that I just recently started playing around with. It is elegant, and it makes great gifts!
When I was first learning the byzantine weave, I wondered how it would look with a large ring between segments. I tried it out, and I liked it so much, that I made up several more! They came out great!
These bracelets come with silver connector rings, and your choice of color for the segments!
Shaggy Loops Bracelet
I came across this weave a while back, and noticed that the shaggy parts of the weave are all just closed rings. I adapted it a bit to instead use rubber rings there. Because of the placement, this doesn't make them stretchy, but in my opinion, it does make them a lot of fun to wear!
Bracelets are lightweight, and can be made with your choice of silver or black connector rings. You can choose up to 3 colors of the "shaggy loop" rings or choose the rainbow, as picture below.
You also get a choice of a silver alloy moon and stars toggle clasp, or a silver or gold magnetic clasp.
Stretchy Dice Bag / Coin Pouch
These are my favorite item from the whole project. These dice bags are fun to play with, and whilst I haven't had a chance to tell for myself how many dice these can hold, I have been told it is over 100!
Just on a whim, I decided to try putting in a soda can, and it fits in there perfectly! I couldn't have made a better fit if I had tried! Of course, it also can be used ass a coin purse, as well! It is very versatile. The bags are made with a flat bottom, so they will stand up well. They will be made with black EPDM rubber rings, and your choice of aluminum color. They are finished off with black paracord and a black spring clasp.
Wide, long chainmail scarf
This is the big item for this kickstarter. I thoroughly enjoyed making the model pictured, and I know that there are others out there who will enjoy wearing theirs as much I love this one!
This scarf measures approximately 6 feet long, so it can be worn in many configurations. It actually weighs about 1lb 3.8 oz. It is very light-weight for its size since it is made with anodized aluminum, and it is so much fun to wear! The "fringe" also makes a pleasant jingling noise when you move.
You can choose the primary, secondary, and accent color for this piece!
Eventually, I want to broaden my chainmail line to have more variety in the rings (square wire, copper, stainless steel, etc). There are so many things that can be made, and I can't wait to make them all. This is my next step, and I want you all to be a part of it and of the many more to come!
Keychains are made with your choice of either silver or black rings, and your choice of color for the scales.
Earrings are made with black aluminum rings, and your choice of color rubber rings.
We are at about the half-way mark in our project's duration, and at this point I like to add in another reward item to keep things going so we don't have a mid-project slump. If you will look at the reward options, I have added a new reward!
Our new reward is going to be a pair of scale flower hair barrettes!
I recently learned how to make these small flowers while I had a good amount of time and nothing to do, and found barrettes that are easy to attach them too!
The flowers are made with silver rings and attached to a silver barrette. You get the choose the scale color, though!
The scale colors that are available for these (not all pictured, as I do not currently have all the colors on hand at this time).
• Mirror (VERY shiny)
• Frost (matte silver/white)
Here is a picture of a few of the colors:
We are about to hit our funding goal, so I wanted to put out our first stretch goal to encourage everyone who might be waiting to pledge or aren't sure to go ahead and do it!
With this first stretch goal, once we reach this mark, I will open up the rubber colors choices for all projects to include the color options, as well, not just black.
(For example, if you are wanting a dice bag, you can get a yellow rubber and pink aluminum option, if you want!) The rubber color choices are listed above!
*Exception* The one exception to this color expansion option is going to be the Celtic Star Pendant. They will still be black rubber with the color accent. However! If we reach this first stretch goal, I will also open up the accent color to include 4 glow-in-the-dark choices, as well. The GITD colors are pink, yellow, blue, green.
We did hit our first stretch goal, so I wanted to add another! For this stretch goal, I wanted to add an option for everyone to be able to acquire the bracelets I had available in my first kickstarter. If we hit this goal, I will add some add-on items for Helm Weave (single, double, or triple), Half Persian 4-in-1, and the orbit weave bracelets.
Here are some examples:
Risks and challenges
Risks and challenges:
Nobody likes to admit that anything could possibly go wrong, but it must be mentioned! I can only foresee 2 possible issues that could arise.
The first issue is a possible backlog on supplies from my supplier. If such a thing does happen, I do have an alternate supplier I can fall back to, so there should not be any major supply delays.
The second issue I can foresee is timing. Let me explain what I mean by that:
I am hand-making everything by myself, I do not have a staff to help me out. If things take off to a much higher degree than anticipated, there could be some unforeseen delays in shipping the rewards out as quickly as desired. If there are a huge amount of orders to fill, I will let everyone know of my expected timetable to ship out the rewards, and if needed, I can take some vacation time off from the day job to give me more production time. Ultimately I would love to quit the day job completely, and this will be a huge step toward that end.
If absolutely necessary, I can also train up some staff to help out. If this does happen, be assured that I will check every item to ensure they are up to my personal quality standards before they ship out. I am very picky!
