Evening Update - April 3, 2013

As the day turns to dusk and our Kickstarter continues to grow, it's time for a recap of today's events. First, we had our first Dragonwhale sightings. Those almost mythical beings whose appearance had been foretold for days have joined our Kickstarter. As with everyone who has pledged to support Camelot Unchained, they have our deepest gratitude.

Secondly, Andrew got to show off some of his "programming chops" today in Update #3 and we are thrilled by the response. The man can really code and I know that as the Kickstarter continues, you'll like his updates even as much as I do. His updates, like this Kickstarter, are just beginning and they will get even better.

Thirdly, over the last 24 hours we have gotten a lot of inquiries about buying additional Founder's Points. I won't say we're surprised (LOL, who would believe that whopper!) but I can say that we are thrilled that people want to customize their pledges. As such, you will find a new section added just before the Founder's Exchange that details the easy steps (so simple even the CEO of a gaming company can do it!) you need to follow to make this happen. There are three tiers and the more Founder's Points you buy, the more additional Founder's Points you get as a thank you from us.

That's pretty much it for now. It was a great day and I'm sure I'll be around this evening responding to comments.

As always, speaking for everyone at CSE, thank you very much for your support!

This game makes me all jiggly inside!

    3. Arkadiusz on April 4, 2013

I'm sorry this is question to update 5.

    4. Arkadiusz on April 4, 2013

I have a question, does it mean people will be able to make macros for combat and add-ons? Please say no or at least do something that it won't affect gameplay too much.

I'm sure there are many ppl who want to enjoy the game rather than look for the 'must have' addons that makes gameplay not so enjoyable and they must be used because otherwise you are under disadvantage

    5. Firedorn on April 4, 2013

I would love to see a way to add more money later on, kind of like they do for Star get add-ons, etc...even after the Kickstarter campaign. I'd love to be able to contribute later on, this way we can throw more money at you that we can't right now.

    6. Thomas H. Thomas on April 4, 2013

Mark it keeps getting better and better. But as others have asked "Can you add on?" I am on a fixed income but would love to invest more into the game, as in monthly until the beta is released. That could increase my investment overall to over $400.00.

    7. BoMbY on April 4, 2013

I'm still quite confused, why some of the higher tier pledges don't include some no-cost stuff like digital items, which are included in lower tiers. But thanks for the update about the beta tests.

    8. Austin France on April 4, 2013

      I would like a $70 add-on option - want to up my $180 pledge to $250

    9. Alexander Jenner on April 4, 2013

Mark, can you explain the Founder Exchange Options?

Especially the "Priority Login" - is that 10pts per login or a permanent perk for the account?

    10. Andrew Tucker on April 4, 2013

stealth should 100% be in this game, and I mean real permanent stealth. But old school, so no vanish and no re-stealthing whilst your in combat.

It was never a big problem until wow rogues. DAoC stealth classes had their advantages, but once they were out they were vulnerable.

Temporary stealth mechanics just don't work and certainly aren't "old school" like this game aims to be

    11. inkbear on April 4, 2013

Mark, ask someone to duct tape your hands to the table... Should make for a fun update video :)

    12. Sascha Zehe (Storm Fireblade) on April 4, 2013

Mark, does buying something like Special Cosmetic Crafter Recipies include ALL available? Or is it possible to buy this item for 10 FPs more than once and get additional recipies? Same goes for others items.

Second: Any chance for something higher regarding FPs, as mentioned in the update? Right now 50$ give you 70 FP. I was thinking about something like 150$ for maybe 250 FP?

    13. Nameless on April 4, 2013

Thanks for the update, that is a great addon that I think many of us wanted.

    14. Foggye - CU on April 4, 2013

@ Altonymous - Here we go, I found a KS comment reply here regarding stealth, hopefully this helps man:

"No final decision on our stealth-type classes has been made, mainly because we have a new mechanic to use for stealth that we want feedback from our backers on. What I can say though is that we will not have a class capable of going into stealth instantly, popping out, having a strong opener/long-range DD and then instantly popping right back in. Also, we want to include a scout class if we meet one of our stretch goals. It would be designed, as the name implies, to be very strong at scouting but not at long-range damage dealing. Community Q&A

As to stealth, that is something we are going to discuss with our backers. We do have a mad/insane/BSC idea for them. We'll see what people think. "

    15. Foggye - CU on April 4, 2013

@ Altonymous - I believe you might have to rely on a crafter to help scale a wall (like ladders, and siege towers.

Though, I think I can understand a bit Mark's hesitation on stealth classes. Here the whole world is the battlezone, not limited to to frontiers back on DAoC. Meaning that stealth classes could kill ppl farming materials, making weapons, sitting in villages, logging in and even gank ppl right out their own doorsteps; then away scot free. I believe he wants them to serve more of a tactical role (i.e. scouting, distraction), rather then assassins. Though, I do realize that the stealth metagame realistically was focused on chokepoints (milegates, bridges, ports), and it had, for the most part, it's own sub-culture. It's gonna be hard to do right considering the scope of CU's vision of combat. I know it's a hot topic Altonymous, and I can trust that he's aware of it. Perhaps it'll be a stretch goal. He does read these posts, and I'm thinking it's getting to the point where it's getting hard to answer everyone (he was up well past midnight EST answering people lastnight). Hopefully he gets to your question chief :).

    16. Altonymous on April 4, 2013

@Foggye. I think that was fine in WAR where the battlezone's were small and you could easily do it. If the battlezone are going to massive like they were in Classic DAoC... As I hope they are. I just don't think that will be as enjoyable. I also hope there is keep/castle wall climbing like in DAoC, and if I can't sneak up the wall I'm a dead man. There's no use climbing a wall in stealth the whole time using up my energy to find myself exposed and out of energy when I get to the top.

    17. Tyson Senway on April 3, 2013

@Jonathon - I am wondering the exact same things. :]

Can we get a point-by-point breakdown of the Founders Exchange items? Just a small explanation of what each is (and why some have ranges of costs).

    19. Devon K. on April 3, 2013

Firstly, thank you for adding FP addons, I will definitely be adding some . I have a question concerning the 'All CSE Games + Updates', does that include all the expansions for this game? I presume that it does but I just wanted to have some clarification on it. If it doesn't, however, would you consider an addon that includes all the expansions much like the $500 pledge level does? Thanks!

    20. Dennis Hudson on April 3, 2013

@Maxx Kilbride this is my personal view and I am not associated with the project other than by donation [disclaimer :) ] but I imagine that high definition digital map would replace the map in your UI? maybe it is special because if the entire server had high definition maps it would use up too many server resources when a bunch of people have it open? just my guess. I am definitely going to get some more founders points but I hope I have that option still after my payment goes through so I can do it the next month. I actually wish kickstarter had an option to pay now instead of pledging with an understanding that not meeting the project goal I would loose the credit card fee as part of my refund. It would make it easier to add to my pledge in say 20 days as another payment so I don't get grilled from the mrs on why I spent so much on a game, makes it easier to go under the radar lol

    21. MintBerryCrunch on April 3, 2013

it would be nice if we could buy the Cloth Map with fp. i would really like to have that map :)

    22. Jordan Bryan on April 3, 2013

I personally would pay probably an extra 100$ worth of FP on top of my founder package just a thought, wouldn't hurt to add a 75$ and 100$ package.

    23. Maxx Kilbride - [Lord Errata] on April 3, 2013

Interesting. I'm kinda curious in this, as with my 110 pledge, I have 55 FP.

Looking at the list, we're not entirely sure what these can be used to buy.

I'd wanna get some more FP though, as that 100FP thing sounds nice, all future expansions and CSE games sounds great...

But curious as to what some of the things "5 FP for high resolution digital map"

Because that sounds pay 5$...for a high resolution map...that you could just download for free from anywhere, legally, even, say a wiki. Doesn't sound to tempting to "buy"

    24. Foggye - CU on April 3, 2013

@ Altonymous - I know that Mark has said that he wants to avoid Stealth, Critical Strike, Re-stealth. Perhaps, it'll be something closer to WAR. Where you really had to pick and choose when to use stealth.

      @City State Entertainment
Will you do into a little more detail as to what the items are in the founders exchange? some of them are kind of obvious like a hat, or a glowing hammer. But things like "sparks flying" (is that when I'm crafting something or do I Just give off sparks) or "special forge" (just cosmetic or is it different from a normal forge) are a little harder to figure out. It would help us figure out which founders items we want to go for if we had a little more detail on that stuff, thanks

    26. Foggye - CU on April 3, 2013

Be sure to add a digital rubber duck to the Founder's Exchange :P

    28. Jonathon Baxa on April 3, 2013

Any chance we could get a little description of the FP items? Such as the proc, is it a one time use? Weapon glow, one time use? Used as a crafter to put on weapons? Special recipes I am more interested in too, but I'm guessing they will only be cosmetic special recipes, nothing game breaking?

    29. Altonymous on April 3, 2013

I hope you read these comments and posting is not in vain. I know you're busy, so I doubt it, but maybe it'll happen.

First I want to acknowledge some of your Foundational Principles before asking my question.

#10 - Pride, pride, everywhere pride...
#9 - Forced Socialization was good, then bad. Is it time for a comeback?
#6 - Rock, paper, scissors? 'Natch!
      #4 - Choice Matters!
#3 - You should always hold the hands of your little children while crossing busy intersections but…
#1 - Be willing to take risks, even if fortune doesn’t always favor the bold

With these in mind, the question is. What about stealth?

      1. It had a sub-community of it's own. There was pride in being a stealther, beating other stealthers. Whole forums were dedicated to trash talking between stealthers on servers.
      2. As a stealther you couldn't level alone in the beginning. I remember paying the price of trying to get to 50 by be the little Infiltrator who could wait hours beside a "pygmy" or "tree", group waiting for a spot to open where they could carry me.. or deal with me cross bow pulling and running my arse off.
      3. In the beginning of DAoC there was some semblance of balance forming... then the buffbots came. To survive as a stealther you had to have one. It was easy to avoid full groups but if you came across another stealther that had one, you better be able to stand up. I'm all for no buffbots. But that also means making the stealther a scissor. Not paper with q-tip.
      4. I would love to have the choice of going it alone or with a small scouting party in RvR with some semblance of a chance at survival. I don't want to ALWAYS have to run around with a zerg to play the game or play only when I can get a full group together. I'm an adult with 4 kids. I play when I have free time.
      5. As a stealther I expect the game to be harder. I expect it to be possible, but harder. It makes it so much more enjoyable when I pull off a victory.
      6. Take a risk. See if it pays off. Make stealther an integral part of the game.

So what do you say? How's stealth play out in the games future?

    30. Brandon Barker on April 3, 2013

Also, in the semi-unlikely event of financial need, are islands/inns transferable to other players?

Looking forward to bumping my pledge up ... either with addons or a new tier, maybe both.

Will there be anything in the 500-1K range that could be almost but not quite as awesome as the islands? I know it is asking a lot but ... I have to ask.

    38. Phillip Walling on April 3, 2013

I may have missed it somewhere, but will the items purchased through the Founder's Exchange be available account-wide or are they only able to be used once?

    39. Michal Harrison on April 3, 2013

Thanks for listening to your fans and adding ways to support the project with add-ons. Hopefully this will drive the pledge total up even more!
