About this project
Structures: The Admiral edition contains the 5 structure hexagon miniatures and the cards belonging to them. These structures bring an alternative game mode in which cities and space stations can be built, which change the original game with their greatly effective abilities.
Planet Mars: After the Terran Empire bombarded Mars down, the circumstances changed on the planet. The Admiral edition contains a totally new board, which has impassable territories. Mars also means an alternative game mode in addition to the normal gameplay.
Elite troops: These are special forces which were trained to destroy their target before it could initiate fire. The Admiral edition adds one elite troop for each faction, which is special in the sense that - in opposition to the normal units - it does not get to the recovery ship after attacking.
After humanity initiated longer voyages into space in the first half of the 21st century, they soon met the ancient and gentle people of Oxes. But human nature tend to dominate and exploit: Oxes found themselves soon in the depths of the hexilium mines, where their unmatched strength, stamina and tranquility resulted in amazingly productive harvest of the precious material. The people, who called themselves xhladtkom in their own language, got the "Ox" cognomen, because humans treated them like farmers treated the oxen. As long and hard decades passed, some brave Oxes tried to break out of the quasi slave yoke, but as humans could deal with these cases in isolation, no significant mass revolts could be organized. At least until recent times, when a new Ox leader decided to end this situation once and for all time. Slowly, they began to modify and arm their miner ships. The war of 2242 brought them the opportunity they were waiting for a long time...
Many rumors were spreading that in the universe growing by the rapid expansion of humans, there were some territories where alien races were spotted. But these were not confirmed by anyone except the oxes, despite the photos and other documents, because these were called hoaxes and conspiration theories, and some well-paid scientists could bring up some credibly looking contra arguments. Still, by the 23rd century most of the population was convinced that they exist. More and more rumors spread that the in the depths of the artificial labyrinths of distant moons’ deep craters such enormous underground laboratories were constructed, where they have been experimenting on aliens for a long time. Moreover, some scientists ran hazardous gene manipulation experiments in order to cross aliens and humans: to create a hybrid that has exceeding mental abilities. These rumors were naturally not confirmed officially by the true financial supporters like the Union of Trade Worlds, on the contrary, they fiercely denied them. Then, in 2245 something happened that changed the official standpoint quickly: tricking their creators, many hundreds of Mentacles escaped from the research facilities, conquering some outer planet, thus gaining control of a greater fleet. Their intentions are unknown...
WHAT MAKES HEXPANSE SPECIAL?
- Simple rules with tactical depth - although quick to learn the basics, the players face tough choices each turn.
- Dynamic gameplay - in the short turns you can pull of powerful combos with the mercenary and action cards.
- Pattern building - pays homage to great abstract classics while delivering something completely different.
- Smart and beautiful graphics - the compact layout of the game board both feasts the eye and greatly reduces setup time.
- Variability - thanks to the 12 mission cards and 9 minor factions the game plays differently almost every time.
You can check the fairly complete rulebook right here.
Why back now?
- Get it first - copies will ship to Kickstarter backers way before the game hits the shop.
- Limited availability - the game will be printed in limited quantities based on the final number of backers.
- Cheaper for backers - the game is estimated to go for around $65 MSRP, depending on unlocked stretch goals. Shipping is also heavily subsidised for you.
- Help us make it better - the stretch goals we could not afford without your collective support will be included in the game.
- Leave your mark for eternity - there are addons and pledge levels for which we will actually include your name or your portrait in the final version of the game.
- We can’t do it without you - we’ve paid for the development, art, graphic design, but we cannot print and ship without you.
Shipping will be charged after the campaign through PledgeManager.
You can add more copies by simply increasing your pledge. Shipping will be charged only once.
* You will not pay extra duty or taxes for packages delivered to AU and CA. One copy will not be charged anything, guaranteed. Pick up in Budapest is free!
The game is based on a system of icons, so neither the character sheets nor the cards contain any texts, so the game is not language dependent. The only language dependent element is the rulebook. The game contains an English guide, and according to our offer, any country/language that reaches 100 backers will get a rulebook in their own language, which will be available online as downloadable content. And if the number of backers will be increasing to 300, we would prepare a printed version, too.

FAQHow is it possible for you to send the orders in such a short time?
When we started the Kickstarter project, the game was ninty percent ready, as well as most of the sGoals. We made contracts with the delivery services and the printing presses, trusting the success of the game, so we could start producing and sending the game as soon as the project is finished.
Is there a way to purchase other games of the publisher?Of course there is. The games are available at the www.kekjatek.hu website. As these games are not purchased through Kickstarter as an add-on, these orders work with different shipping. Please contact us in email.
What will be the size of the cards in the game?
There will be one card size in Hexpanse: 88 x 63 mm
What is the difference between the Admiral's Editions of the games and the standard editions?
The Admiral’s Edition of games have numbered boxes and contains the following elements, that the basic version does not: Planet Mars game board, 5 structures and cards, Elite troops and special stretch goals. Other than that, they are functionally the same.
Is possible for those who pledge Admiral edition to get it in blue box?
If you pledge Admiral, you will be able to choose in the pledge manager at the end of the campaign whether you want to receive it in Admiral (gold) or Captain (blue) box.
What about shipping?
The most important thing that shipping cost will be charged after the campaign only. Some Kickstarter projects have different pledge levels for various outside-the-USA destinations. We have carefully researched shipping, both domestic and foreign, and come up with the following plan. We use different shipping for each country, you can check the prices by shipping issue.
Shipping is really expensive...
Yes it is. Sadly, our prices reflect real shipping rates, and for games of this weight, USA costs almost the same as Europe. Regarding to other destinations the advence prices are quite high, but it can be lower if plenty of people will back us from those countries. We hope so...
If I add additional copies to my order, do I have to pay the shipping price again for each new copy?
No, you don't! You only have to pay the shipping price once, then you may add more copies for the price indicated in the pledge level.
Risks and challenges
We are a new company in the world market, but we are not new to board games. We are more or less the same guys that work at Kékjáték in Hungary, which have produced 6 games in the last few years: http://www.kekjatek.hu/.
Although this is not our first game produced, this is the first time we manufacture in China and distribute worldwide. We took careful planning asked a great deal of advice from our fellow board game companies on how to handle the difficulties that arise from expanding to the world market.
The game will have traditional materials (cardboard, cards and dice) and our manufacturer Win-Go is doing an excellent job in producing those. We have held one of their latest products Days of Ire: Budapest 1956 in our hands and it’s quality is superb.
The fulfillment company will be Fulfillrite in the US, Gamesquest in Europe, and Worldwide. They are also a company with great reputation. We have great confidence that the fulfillment will go fluently.
All of that said, nothing is ever 100% sure. There are unpredictable events, such as problems with customs of factory delays can happen, and we have no control over those. The best we can do is to partner up with the most trustworthy people.
We believe in transparency and communication. If any complication comes up that affects the product and fulfillment - thus affecting you -, we will let you know as soon as possible.
All graphics and art is complete, all development and game design is finalised. The rulebook is 95% complete and we are glad to hear any feedback on it. When the campaign ends, all files will be set and sent to the factory.
