About

Comic books in the 1990s had a few staples; big shoulder pads, bigger guns, and monkeys. Big shoulder pads and guns were a common sight in most titles, but monkeys were everywhere. Enough monkeys that in 1999 the annual issues for DCs main comics followed the story of those characters being turned into gorillas*. That story was titled the JLApe: Gorilla Warfare.

With this project we will be constructing costumes of those characters. Gorilla versions of DCs most famous superheros. There are two main parts to each costume, the gorilla undersuit, and the superhero costume over that. We have both suits figured out for  each of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and Green Lantern, and people to wear them. There is potential for more costumes if we get the people and enough funding.

The gorilla suits are high quality suits that fit somewhat like any other piece of clothing. There is padding to add to certain muscle areas and increase the size of the person wearing the suit. If we get enough funding we will be able to add features such as a moveable jaw and arm extensions. Basically, more backers means better gorillas. The over suits will be tailored to each person while wearing the gorilla suit.

Once finished the costumes will travel to Ohio comic book conventions and wander the show floors, making them available for photographs and videos. The costumes will also be on display in comic book stores across Ohio (a list of which will be available in updates).

We are fans. These costumes will be representations of characters owned by DC Comics. Any materials used are purely for reference and we won't make money from the use of them. If you want more information about these characters and the events in which they act please check out this page: http://spider-bob.com/events/dc/JLApe.htm

*Yes, we know that gorillas are a Great Ape and not a Monkey.
