Earlier this year, I released the second volume of my Music for Driving and Film series. Now I wish to bring it to the big stage.
...with the full instrumentation heard on the records. In the form of The Reverend Screaming Fingers Big Band and accompanied by the fantastic film projections of The Overdub Club. This has never happened.
The idea is to stage two special shows: one in the San Francisco Bay area, my home for the past fifteen years and a second in New York City, the base where the I grew up and recently returned to.
Turn the booking process on its head
Basically, the idea is to pre-sell the shows.
This achieves several things. It determines the demand and scale and insures that it will be a special event, attended by those who want to make it a reality. It will be magic. A dream for us and a treat for you.
The date in San Francisco will be Friday, October 7 and it will be a special early evening show at the Brick and Mortar in the Mission. Band members include Nils Erickson (20 Minute Loop), John Hanes, (Chrome), Wil Hendricks (Edith Frost), Suki O'Kane (She Mob) and other special guests.
The New York date will be in November. I would like to include a mix of the SF peeps and some NYC stars for the show, but this is completely dependent on the outcome of this campaign!
All you have to do is buy a ticket! And if you can't make the show, you can still support this project by choosing to buy a CD
Residing somewhere between the instrumental work of Pell Mell, Brian Eno and Giant Sand, Music for Driving and Film, vol 2 is a cycle of soundtracks that transports the listener to a very familiar place. It is my best work to date. You can listen here and check out a nice review.
The show will also feature the images of film magicians and long time collaborators, Alfonso Alvarez and Thad Povey (collectively the Overdub Club). Some of the MD&F music was created for these images, and some of these images have been created for the music (see vids below). This show will bring the symbiotic nature of our collaboration to full potential.
I hope you will consider this project worthy of your support. I, like many independent musicians, have been working hard, slogging it out for years on the road, sometimes playing for a few bucks and it would really nice to bring this music to you with bit more class :)
Where the $$ will go:
Paying the musicians, projectionists, sound person
Finding in an appropriate venue with good sound and sight lines
Making special show posters
Transportation and event costsWikipedia: Brick and mortar refers to a company that possesses a building or store for operations. →
