We find ourselves in an exciting position. After releasing our last record in January of 2009, we had a huge backlog of songs we were really excited about. We immediately jumped back into the studio and began recording a new record.
After a year of tracking, arranging, listening and mixing, we completed the record and started passing a few recordings around to gauge the reactions. These songs mark a pretty obvious departure from our previous work, so we weren't completely confident in what reactions to expect. Luckily, virtually everyone who we've approached has had a extremely positive, if not giddy, reaction to it. Working these songs into the live set has garnered the same type of attention. Needless to say, we are extremely anxious to get this record out to the world.
Although our band has really hit a creative peak in the past year, our business is undergoing quite a dramatic transition. Having amicably parted ways with our longtime manager at the end of last year, we have taken some time off of touring to restructure our business. This will be our first completely DIY project where the four members of the band are absolutely responsible for every decision made. We've come up with a really solid plan for releasing and promoting the record, we just need a little more funding than we have at our disposal to make our designs a reality. Recording and mixing took a lot out of our available resources, so we're looking for some friends to aid us along with completing the process.
We still need to master the record, finish the artwork and design, and produce the vinyl records and CDs. Along with that, we plan to create podcasts, hire radio promotion and tour promotion, buy a few pieces of new equipment we need to really get this new music sounding good live, and then we'll hit the road to get this stuff out to as many people as possible. We want to give this record a good shot at getting into the hands of anyone who would appreciate it, and this, of course, will take a little financial support.
The rough timeline is to release an EP of 4 or 5 songs in July and then get the complete album out in November, with the interim giving us time to publish our podcasts, make music videos, and hopefully have some other cool ideas as companions to the EP/album that we can incorporate. The more we can raise, the better; that means more music videos, more tour support, better equipment, and if there's any left over, maybe more studio time. We're trying to stay organic about this and leave room for the whole project to grow and change with input from other creative imaginations. If anyone has anything to add or any inspired ideas, please let us know. If it works for us and seems feasible, we'll use it and totally give you credit for your genius. With your help, we can make this album release project not only possible, but better than we ever could have imagined.
