The music documentary where no one gets out alive!

At a time when there’s no shortage of music comebacks, Embrace the New asks can older artists stay creative and relevant? It’s widely believed artists produce their best work while young. But Noel Gallagher, Johnny Marr and Shaun Ryder to name just a few are producing some of the best and most critically acclaimed work of their careers post 50, in a world where new music is continually defined by reality TV shows like X-Factor, Madonna has levelled ageism claims at the music industry and BBC Radio 1. 

Early reaction to Embrace the New has been extremely strong. We’ve made a 2-minute trailer that perfectly frames the creative vision and our first teaser (released in October 18) received over 74K views on Facebook alone. We have support across social media from UNILAD and Louder Than War and the contributors featured are also getting behind us on social media. From such a positive response we know it’s a film music fans want to see.

We have had serious pre-buy and distribution interest from Sky Arts and TVF, which has motivated us even further to make this campaign a success.

Contributors already on board include: Johnny Marr, Shaun Ryder, Peter Hook, Clint Boon, Mike Pickering, Rowetta and legendary Chicago house DJ Marshall Jefferson. With over 3 hours of interview footage already shot we are now looking to raise funds to secure further interviews from our contributor wish list and complete our film.

Meet the team

Greame Park- Producer

Produced by legendary Haçienda DJ Graeme Park. Graeme himself is currently enjoying a creative second coming with Haçienda Classical, a collaboration between executive producer and Embrace the New contributor Peter Hook (Joy Division and New Order), former Haçienda DJ Mike Pickering and experimental orchestra Manchester Camerata to worldwide acclaim.

Glenn Hanstock - Director

Directed by award winning documentary director Glenn Hanstock whose 2015 documentary ‘Tickle the Ivories’ won best documentary at a number of film festivals, screened internationally in 5 countries as well as at Pinewood Studios in the Best in Season Documentary category of Lift-Off International and Sheffield DocFest.

FUNDS

We want to make an unforgettable documentary that music fans will be talking about for years to come. We have so much passion for this project and want to make something that reflects that. In order to see our dream come to life we need money and that is where you come in.

All funds raised in this campaign will go into what you see on screen from the camera work and graphics to the artists themselves. We've been filming when we can in Liverpool and Manchester and have already captured some great interviews and footage. In order to make the film that we have envisioned and get interviews with some key artists we need to expand filming outside of the North West and potentially even outside of the UK. Funds raised from this campaign will be used to pay for production costs associated with filming those interviews.

One of the biggest expenses we will face is going to be obtaining music licences, but when the back catalogue is this good how can we not fill our documentary with the songs you know and love. Maybe even a few new ones!

Risks and challenges

Right now the biggest risk we are facing is lack of funds. We have a vision and we can't wait to share it but without the backing of big studios this can be an incredibly difficult thing to achieve. We are hoping that with this crowdfunding campaign you can help us overcome the biggest obstacle that is in our way.

With regards to the shoot itself, this is not our first production and we are well aware that all projects come with risks and challenges but with an experienced team behind us we are sure that we can tackle anything that comes our way.
