About

In 2014 Ash Dykes (www.ashdykes.com) became the first person to complete a solo & unsupported walk across Mongolia.

From West to East, Ash trekked 1,500 miles, over the Altai Mountains, through the Gobi Desert & across the Mongolian Steppe, all whilst pulling 120kg (18st) of survival supplies on a homemade trailer.

From Grey Wolves, Snow blizzards, Sandstorms, severe heat exhaustion, Snakes, Semi-wild dogs & Loneliness, to name a few, Ash battled on through the elements, across the second largest land-locked country in the world, in just 78 days, knocking a staggering 22 days off his predicted time.

Ash became known to the locals as “The Lonely Snow Leopard”, due to the Snow Leopard being the only predator to walk alone & the Wolves keeping a respectful distance from them, as they did with Ash.

During his epic journey Ash filmed a video journal of the events that unfolded. We would now like to return to Mongolia and retrace his steps (this time in a 4x4) to help bring his video diary to life in a documentary.

Ash's character, sense of humour and pure determination already shines through in his footage, so we want to amplify that by taking him back to relive it and narrate his story from it's source.

We are on a tight schedule as Ash's speaking tour starts in March 2017, which means he will be unable to travel for any length of time during that busy period. So we have decided to go in Sept/October 2016, just before the snow covers Mongolia and dramatically changes the look of the terrain.

We need your help to fund this trip and to bring Ash's story to life. Your money will go towards flights, accommodation, local guides, transport and necessary upgrades to our film equipment.

Any excess funds will go towards further equipment, post production and promotion of the documentary.

This is a documentary of an epic adventure that has been endlessly requested by audiences who have heard Ash speak, so please help out if you can.

Thanks,

Matt & Ash

Risks and challenges

Risks and problems that we may face are all linked to the nature of our trip. We will be in remote locations with limited access to power and resources and exposed to the elements (sandstorms, hail, cold, wind and rain). If we damage equipment it could effect the footage we capture. Bad weather in general may also restrict access to certain regions.

We are confident that we can capture the story and culture despite these challenges. We have planned the equipment needed and planned ways to charge remotely and backup footage.
