About this project
Introducing a brand new art book and the first ever self-published book from Minneapolis-based creative studio Burlesque of North America. Been Busy: The Art & Design of Mike Davis features over 100 pages of design work from one of the founding members of Burlesque. In an era where art and design is created, dumped onto Instagram, and then shortly forgotten, Been Busy sees Burlesque continuing their tradition of offering high quality and collectible printed pieces which last a lifetime.
ABOUT THE BOOK
From concert posters created for DaM-FunK, The National, Diplo, Arcade Fire, and Chromeo to a feast of food illustrations to never-before seen rough sketches and stream-of-consciousness doodles to rare graphic gems pulled from the cutting room floor to brand new vector illustrations crafted specifically for the book, the work featured in Been Busy spans Mike's entire career and the full spectrum of his styles and creative approaches.

Basically this thing is going to be very high quality. It's our first book ever and we want to make sure it looks and feels as good as we can make it. We've turned to the folks at Hillcrest Media Group in downtown Minneapolis to handle the printing and binding. Every copy of this book will be 100% manufactured in the great state of Minnesota! USA!
All of the files have been turned in to Hillcrest and the book is officially in production. We're anticipating a release date in October 2015.
Inspired by everyday graphics from the 1960s-80s, hand-painted signs, graffiti, 1960s psychedelic concert posters, vintage video game promotional graphics, early hip hop music and imagery, and Japanese snack packaging, Mike's clean and colorful vector illustrations and typography look backwards and forwards at the same time. As one of the creative directors of Burlesque of North America, he has created concert posters, logos, t-shirts, stage graphics, album artwork and more for a range of clients including Nike Sportswear, Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, Rhymesayers, Kidrobot, Minnesota Public Radio, and Target.

Since this campaign has been completely exceeding my expectations and you guys have gone out of your way to support the release of my book, I decided to throw in something extra to show my appreciation. The first 200 people to back this project ($25 reward package or higher) will receive a free soft enamel pin of my Burger Lady graphic added in with their shipment.
Already backing this campaign? You're all set! Haven't gotten in on the action yet? Hurry before these are all scooped up!
Risks and challenges
This book has already been submitted to the printer and is currently in production! You won't have to wait for us to finish any Illustrator files or send anything in. There is always a risk that print production could be delayed, and if this happens, you will be updated along the way.
We will continue to work on the various reward items before the time the book launches. While we have plenty of time to make sure everything is produced perfectly, we will do everything in our power to make sure all bonus prints and stickers are produced in a high quality and timely manner.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
