It's very simple. Following noise complaints from our neighbours and a subsequent acoustic report we need to improve our sound proofing urgently.
The problem is we don't have any cash. The bar is bank-rolled by my parents and we literally have nothing left. We are creating something special but that takes money and there is nothing left in the pot. Even rent is a struggle at the moment. Any delays in sound proofing will almost certainly end in a licence review and the removal of our live music licence. Even with the great support from the town we wouldn't survive longer than the summer.
We also have a new landlord wanting to move toilets downstairs and out the back. While he is willing to foot the bill for the layout change we will need to pay for further sound proofing, a new stage and sound equipment and with his permission a few other layout changes meaning additional seating and increase in capacity up to 150.
Obviously, I don't need to tell you that this will mean bigger bands coming to Worthing. The plan is also to change our licence to close at 2am and have an alternative DJ after gigs until 2am.
The future of 42 is in the balance but a positive result would be awesome and ensure the alternative scene in this town is here for many years to come.
I'm dead against asking you to donate. Your custom in the bar should be enough but the noise issues and urgent requirements for sound proofing has forced me to ask for help. I'm currently talking to the council, PRS and The Arts Council about funding. Ben Napier-Raikes fired off some begging emails to massive bands asking for donations explaining the back story of Forty Two and has already received positive feedback from Bullet For My Valentine and Enter Shikari.
People are starting to rally round now they know the problem. We need to save the bar and while we're saving it, let's make it more awesome so we survive well in to the future.

Risks and challenges
This will be the first Kickstarter project. This is to cover the cost of the sound proofing. Any thing left over will go towards equipment or the layout changes. This depends completely on what funding we get from other sources. If we need further funds we will raise it as we go. There are other ideas in the pipeline where we don't have to ask our customers.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
