An RTS/FPS computer game where you can not only build your base and army but also take control of your units and fight as one of them.
Despite Kickstarter coming to and end in a few days, its still not going to stop me working on the game as I'm having far too much fun making it.
Recently I've been working on implementing a new path finding system so that units understand the building layouts and able to navigate them. In order to command and construct inside the buildings I have made an operations screen.
I'm excited to show you the first gameplay video of Industry.
Obviously you can see there is a lot to accomplish but you should be able to get an idea of where we are going with it.
On top of what you see will be an extensive tech tree featuring many weapons, vehicles and upgrades. Plus base structures and internal placements such as turrets, forcefields, cameras and more.
Have you ever played Starcraft or Command & Conquer and ever wished you were down there with your troops? In Industry you can!
Industry is a Real Time Strategy/First Person Shooter game where players will be able to take part in battles for control of a planet either on foot, driving around in a vehicle or tactically controlling the battle from the CEO's office. The game will include a mixture of old school weaponry and futuristic hardware all researchable via an extensive tech tree.
Set in a future where banks and corporations have joined to form an unholy evil SuperCorporation with limitless power but never enough wealth. The Earth totally devastated by pollution and greed where the rich and powerful live in clean domes and everyone else lives in the toxic atmosphere outside.
Not satisfied with current mining methods, researchers come up with the ingenious idea of using nuclear weapons to blast out large chunks of the Earth's crust to reach rich deposits of precious minerals below. However due to their short sightedness, the cascading affect rips through the crust and blows up the planet.
Escaping into space, the CEO's and heads of the SuperCorps survive to exploit new planets. As one of the CEO's you'll be in charge of strip mining the next planet.
- A Real Time Strategy/ First Person Shooter combination game.
- Design your base including: Turrets, doors, forcefields, alarms and much more.
- Able to take control of tanks, robots and aircraft to fully immerse yourself in the combat.
- Customize your turrets and units to adapt to enemy strategies.
- Large researchable tech tree with random generation so each game is different.
- More game play and less cut scenes. Its a game, not a film!
- Use corporate espionage to hinder the enemy or steal the fruits of their research budget to bolster your own forces.
- Vast array of planets to explore and strip mine.
- Multiplayer by design and not an afterthought; there's nothing more satisfying than nuking your friends!
We have been working on the game for a year now in our free time and feel it is the time to push development up a notch such as improved graphics, models and sound and ultimately turn the current version into a fully playable game.
Currently we still have full time jobs and the goal we have set only reflects paying for necessary software and hardware. If we go beyond our goal, this should not only significantly speed up the creation of a fully working game with freelancer help on the graphics/programming, but also allow us to add many more features/tweaks/additions such as film quality music or even a title animation.
Aspects to look forward to
Just as your excited looking forward to be playing Industry, we are as excited in creating it and the content. We are very mindful of the issues in attempting to join 2 genres together and the last thing we want to do is make a substandard game trying to merge them together. One important aspect of this will be gameplay depth.
We ultimately want aspects such as when you run over a robot, it gets stuck in the window and you need to wipe it off with the windscreen wipers, or adding fantastical inventions such as the quantum tunnelling device which will open a 2 way gateway across the map , but with research it could create a vacuum effect when it opens so you could hoover up your opponents at the other side. Or even a special gun designed to close it while troops are being transported through.
Also want to add a weather control device with various levels of power from rain to a precise lightning strike to take out that annoying player.
The First Person Shooter aspect will be a big part in the game. Usually tanks and walkers end up being the favourite units to create leaving the lonely soldiers to be useless. Well in Industry these soldiers or A11Bots will play an important part in the game as they will be the only units capable of entering facilities and killing the CEO or disabling power or even taking over the security control room.
Plus with you running alongside your fellow bots, it will only add to the success of your mission.
These are just some ideas we hope to incorporate into the game, a full tech tree has been designed but I am currently keeping secret for the time being.
We really hope you will take a good look at the video, at the goals and at what we are trying to achieve and hope that you will help us out in our mission to create a fantastic and unique game for you to enjoy.
As a huge thank you for contributing to the game, you will of course be rewarded no matter how much you pledge.
Copy of Industry
If you pledge £50 or more, you will get the Beta version of Industry when it is released and with a free upgrade to the full game when it comes out!
If you pledge £250 or more, you will be given the opportunity to send in a picture of yourself in a striking pose and I will convert it into a painting complete with gold embossed name and place it in the office level of the HQ.
If you pledge over £1000, I shall erect a monument in your honour on one of the planets, thus your name will forever be part of the game.
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
As with any computer game there are plenty of risks, such as compatibility with various systems or hardware issues or simply bugs and glitches. So the game will be vigorously Beta tested to iron out these problems before it is released. Also since we are incorporating Multiplayer into the game, we will be continuing to test it and write it side by side with the skirmish aspect rather than an afterthought.
I am currently working on a Windows version of the game, and I totally understand that people who use other platforms do tend to miss out on really cool games. So far I have tested the game on MacOS with encouraging results. However I currently do not have the resources to work on other platforms at the same time. If Kickstarter succeeds then I really hope to release on Mac and maybe even Linux.
