Today is the last day of our campaign, and I want to thank you from the bottom of my gamer heart for helping us get our funds together for this year's game con. It's been a fun campaign, with a lot of new faces and several old friends, and we're definitely ready to rock and roll on TsunamiCon 2018.
When I first uttered the word "TsunamiCon" in polite company, I had no idea what I was getting into. Our community group Prismatic Tsunami had just hosted our second seasonal GameDay event at The Burrow in east Wichita, and my team was tearing down equipment from our live Metagamers Anonymous podcast. I remember telling my crew that we were on a path that inevitably ended with our very own game con, and they looked at me like I'd grown another head.
Well... five years later, we're still going strong. The con has just gotten better every year, and our community has continued to expand and generate a lot of excitement. As the hobby grows and more and more folks get involved in tabletop gaming, we see more families and out-of-town guests dropping in than ever. Gamers are no longer such a niche social phenomenon. Best of all, more events are cropping up all the time, providing ever greater opportunities for us to get our game on.
The past two years afforded us an important opportunity for growth as we partnered up with the Wichita Scottish Rite. The Scottish Rite is a huge, beautiful old building nestled in downtown Wichita that has a rich and immersive atmosphere that's perfect for our event. They love what we do and give us the run of the place, which includes the massive Great Hall, the gorgeous upstairs auditorium, and so many cool rooms and spaces that we can coop for our features and events. If you've never made it out before, I promise you're in for a real treat.
So please... feel free to continue spreading the word, both in the hours left before the Kickstarter rolls to a close, and in the months ahead as we gear up for the con! Help us make this year's event the biggest and best it's ever been!
And thank you! It's been an honor. I'm looking forward to seeing you at the con!
