About this project
I’m Daniel, he’s called Steve and thank you for taking the time to check out our Kickstarter project. I like to write and Steve likes to draw so we thought we’d combine our unholy powers and create something special. That something is: The Wolf.
The Wolf started off as a prose short story inspired by a news article in Fortean Times but a passion for comics and graphic novels piqued an interest in trying to write my own. With Steve’s amazing talents as an artist we’ve started bringing this project to life.
The Wolf is the story of a small, isolated town existing in the Arctic tundra. One night an army of wolves descend upon the town and begin to terrorise the townspeople. Amidst the chaos we follow a man called Stieg as he attempts to rescue his friend Antov from the wolves’ attack.
It is a dark story about the magic and fury of nature, the trials of one soul willing to save another and, above all, the power of forgiveness.
The aim of our Kickstarter is to raise enough money to finish The Wolf and to see it in print and digital format so we can share it with the world through book shops, comic conventions and (hopefully) through a publisher.
The finished book will be 50 pages in length, A4 size and in paperback with a limited number in hardback.
Each page is delicately hand drawn by Steve using traditional materials. So far he has completed the first six pages of the novella. It takes him roughly one week to complete each page meaning this project will take roughly twelve months to complete.
The money raised via Kickstarter will be used for the following...
- Printing - Steve’s labour/materials - Acquiring ISBN numbers - Shipping rewards to our backers - the Kickstarter fee
Possible stretch goals...
Should our project raise more than its original goal we are considering the following options as potential stretch goals:
- An increase in the overall print run of paperback and hardback copies
- Extra stories written by Daniel and illustrated by Steve that'll turn The Wolf into a graphic anthology!
About our rewards...
Everyone likes rewards and we're offering copies of The Wolf in digital and print format along with some signed goodies such as A4 prints of Steve's artwork and an exclusive prequel comic. Following a request on our Facebook page we're going to do a limited print run of hardback editions of The Wolf.
For backers outside of the UK the conversion from British £ to US, Canadian, Australian and New Zealand $ is roughly:
£1 = US$ 1.66, CAN$ 1.84, AUS$ 1.85, NZ$ 1.96*
£3 = US$ 4.98, CAN$ 5.54, AUS$ 5.56, NZ$ 5.88*
£10 = US$ 16.62, CAN$ 18.47, AUS$ 9.28, NZ$ 19.62*
£15 = US$ 24.93, CAN$ 27.70, AUS$ 18.56, NZ$ 29.44*
£20 = US$ 33.25, CAN$ 36.94, AUS$ 37.13, NZ$ 39.25*
£30 = US$ 49.87, CAN$ 55.41, AUS$ 55.69, NZ$ 58.88*
£40 = US$ 66.50, CAN$ 73.88, AUS$ 74.26, NZ$ 78.51*
£50 = US$ 83.12, CAN$ 92.36, AUS$ 92.82, NZ$ 98.13*
The rewards include shipping for the UK. Unfortunately the cost of shipping abroad is quite high here in the UK hence the need to add a fee for International backers. We've done our research (the lady in the Post Office found it quite amusing to hypothetically send a package around the world) and the proposed shipping fee is the most competitive.
£8 = US$ 13.30, CAN$ 14.77, AUS$ 14.85, NZ$ 15.70*

But who on Earth are we?
I work as a writer and computer game designer with my publishing success being as a writer for games on two projects: Recovery Search & Rescue Simulation (PC) and Primal Rumble (Android). The Wolf will be my first printed publication. As a writer I enjoy blending the fantastic/weird with the real and would list the likes of Neil Gaiman, Haruki Murakami and Mark Millar as my literary inspirations. I maintain something of a website over here...
...featuring some of my writing work, creative projects and links to the games I have worked on.

As for Steve, he is a professional artist who has had a few books of his own published. Steve has also been commissioned by Llandudno Council to produce a series of murals depicting Alice in Wonderland.
Steve likes to describe his work as surreal and bizarre and has a penchant for dark fairytales. He keeps a page of his work here:

Risks and challenges
The script for The Wolf is finished and finalised. The greatest challenge is getting the art complete. Save for any freak occurrences or acts of God Steve is dedicated to the project and his one page-one week schedule, meaning he will hopefully be finished on time. Deadlines, however, do sometimes slip but we will always keep our backers abreast of developments.
We have selected our printer and have set our prices. There is, however, the risk of a printer shutting down but we have a couple of reserve options in place should this situation arise.
We will endeavour to get rewards to our backers as quickly as possible - ideally within a month of completion - but are naturally at the mercy of our postal service.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
