First things first...THANK YOU!!!
We'd like to say thank you for all the support you've given us the past two years. With your support we charted #109 on CMJ's Top 200 National Charts. Chicago Metromix picked us a Local Band to Know in 2011, The Deli Magazine - Chicago ranked us as the #4 Emerging Artist of 2011, and more.
Thank you, as well, for wanting to learn about our new album. None of our new album would be possible without you. We're having a blast making it and can't wait to let you hear it.
We're currently wrapping up our new LP: The Vines of Age. It's been an exciting endeavor venturing out into new territory. Whereas Death Wave and the "Hemmingbirds" sound was created by Yoo Soo, this album has expanded to incorporate the creative work of other engineers and musicians. With Tim, Zach, and Matt now as band members and contributors, our ambition has expanded in the studio and we really feel like it's paying off.
That ingrained ambition is not only limited to our music - it's expanded to how we want to release the record. We want to give this thing a proper liftoff - a great album package, promotion, release show, touring, everything.
Why do we need $2500?
First, we're definitely not asking all of you to foot the bill for us in its entirety: $2500 is only part of what we need to pay in order to make this album as successful as possible. As you likely know, a music career is a costly investment, and we sure don't have to tell anyone that making an album (which is still only part of our career) isn't cheap. For a long time now, we've been able to foot this bill. But as we move into this new phase, what we want versus what we can afford is now beyond our reach.
In the interest of transparency, we've broken down the cost of the entire record for you:
- Mastering at Saff Mastering: $500
- CD Production Costs (4 panel Digipack, 6 panel insert, replication):$1,700.00
- Public Relations Campaign: $1,500.00
- Radio campaign: $1,800.00
- New merchandise (t-shirts, stickers, posters, etc.): $1,000.00
Grand Total: $6,500.00
If You Help Us Succeed
Again, $2500 is only part of what we need to get this record going. The success of this Kickstarter will help us pay for the cost of mastering and pressing this album. As Conor Oberst once said at a Bright Eyes concert, and we paraphrase, "Buy our record. Not so you can have our music - you can get that off iTunes of whatever and that's great. But buy it so that you actually own something physical." As we're living in a day and age of iPods and downloads, the presentation of an actual physical album has become a bit of a lost art. We really want to pull out all of the stops and make the packaging of our new album something special.
The $2500 will also give us the financial clearance we need to pay for everything else we'd like to do this album justice. We want to promote this album hard with a radio and PR campaign. We had a pretty successful radio campaign for "Death Wave" last year which afforded us some cool things like charting #109 on CMJ's Top 200 National, some licensing opportunities, a small Midwest tour, and some great mentions in some of our favorite publications.
Support Your Local Hemmingbirds
We love making music. There's nothing better than packing up the van on a Friday night and heading off to rock out at a show. Except maybe hitting the road for a week, playing a show in a different city each night, meeting new people, sharing that energy that comes from connecting with an audience with them. It sounds a little cheesy to say it, but none of that is possible without YOU.
This new album means a lot to us. For our Kickstarter to be a success, we need all of you to share this with your friends, your family, anyone you think will get something from listening to our songs, or see us play live, or check out one of our videos. Please help us spread the word a bit via Twitter, Facebook, email, word of mouth.
Lastly...THANK YOU AGAIN
Thank you. We're really, really excited about this album and cannot wait to start to get you a copy of it, whether via download or physical CD. Every dollar helps, and even if you can't help out with a donation, at the least, please share this page.
Thanks and much love,
Zach Benkowski, Timothy Cap, Yoo Soo Kim, and Matt McGuire - Hemmingbirds
