About this project
The goal, as with many of my photos, is to create a compelling panoramic of NYC that falls outside what a camera and even a panoramic camera can capture. I try to create an image the way your eye sees it.This Central Park photo with hundreds of people in it is a compilation of many photos taken from various angles . This is an ultra wide angle shot and I have put it together using my own technique to be seamless and accurate to how your eye would view it in the world.
At www.edledermanphoto.com you can see many examples of panoramics that I have shot using this technique that I have developed. This part of the project is done.
Also when you get to the rewards section many of my rewards are images you can see on my facebook page and on my web page www.edledermanphoto.com
My next goal was to find a gallery that would be willing to show the photo at 40- 50 feet. Tria Gallery loved the idea for an upcoming show; the photo will wrap around the gallery to cover most of their wall space. You can read more about Tria Gallery at: http://www.triagallerynyc.com/upcoming.htm
My inspiration- :http://www.kodak.com/US/en/corp/features/coloramas/colorama.html
My father took me to Grand Central when i was 9 or 10 years and I saw my first Kodak Colorama and had one of those great childhood peak experiences. The photograph was larger than life; the saturated colors and high contrast revealed an idealized view of the world. In my work I often try to capture that sense of wonder I felt standing in Grand Central looking at the Coloramas but now with my own sense of what i like a photgraph to look and feel like.
Thanks to Kickstarter i 'm hoping to fund this project through what i hope you find are really great value rewards in the form of art. I'm hoping to raise about $ 3,300 for the printing and mounting of this installation. This doesn't include the installation and transportation. This print, due to its size, is probably unsaleable, but I do list it in the rewards section for some brave soul. The gallery will be selling a 10 foot long print of the image - limited edition of 10.
Friend me on facebook and check out the photo of the day as some of the rewards are from that project. and go to my website to see many other images for rewards.
I hope you can make it to the opening January 27, 2011.
